Thanks! I put down a gesso (a base coat of white acrylic paint, white ink and powdered chalk). I apply it thick enough that there are visible brush strokes. Then I do all of the drawing/inking/inkwash stuff. Once dry, I rub the whole thing with soft pastels to bring out the brush strokes. A complicated process, but I like the results.
