Description
As I stated earlier, I wanted to do something different with this round of OCD's, and one of those was creating a superteam. The problem with creating superteams is finding a nice theme to base them around, and to give them a well balanced and complimentary powerset that doesn't make one character stand out more than another, or make another one useless. The most common way to do this is just to follow the basis of the four elements- earth, wind, fire and water. However, that has been done to death, so I wanted to try something different. I decided that, instead of following the classic elements, I'd base the teams powers in Quantum Mechanics and the four fundamental forces of the universe. That way it would give them significant powers, but also ones that would compliment each other well. Sure, they'd end up just being basic abilities, but their roots would help them stand out from the pack. The origin I had for them was that, eons ago, an alien spacecraft crashed into the planet. Reactivating in recent times, the onboard computer of the craft determined that the planet was facing dire peril. So it chose five humans from across the planet and empowered them with incredible abilities to send them out and confront these threats to protect the earth. The roster would include:
Gravity Man (Blue): Team leader. From London, England. Wields gravity based powers, allowing him to fly, make objects lighter or heavier, and deliver powerful gravity enhanced blows or fire "gravimetric waves" of force.
Surefire (Red): From Tokyo, Japan. Powered by the Weak Force, she can wield the energy released from radioactive decay and release it in powerful blasts of energy.
Sidestep (Yellow): From Buenos Airies, Argentina. Able to transport herself and others great distances, as well as create quantum duplicates of herself to aid in combat.
Fieldstrength (Black): From San Diego, California. Powered by the Strong Force, able to increase his molecular density to increase his strength and durability. Also able to create powerful force fields to protect himself and others.
Magnetize (Purple): From Paris, France. Wields electromagnetic abilities, allowing her to create magnetic fields that she can manipulate in various ways.
I designed their costumes to give a uniform yet practical look to their designs, and gave them individual headgear and helmets to help differentiate them. The "5" design was the most fun to come up with, since I wanted something very stylized and similar to something like the Superman "S" shield, which was more than just an S in a triangle. The color scheme I cribbed from Sentai, since I knew that it would be a good color balance. I just swapped out the pink with purple. The name "Defcon 5" came about since I wanted a name with a number in the title, and something "science fiction-y", and Defcon 5 fit the bill.

Hey, those science references with Surefire and Fieldstrength...double thumbs-up.
(May I also mention that Gravity Man looks a lot like Frozone from The Incredibles...?)

Sidestep with that combination of teleporter and duplicator is, if not unique, then certainly a rare on the ground sort. Favourite of the lot, definitely.

Love seeing a uniform team with individually designed helmets.

This is an exceptionally great take on an international team with a connected sci-fi origin.

They're somewhat like that Doom Patrol-expy astronaut team from Astro City who everyone hates because they're really preachy and pacifistic or something.

Also, I meant to ask: gravity, electromagnetism, strong force, weak force, what does Sidestep represent?

I think it might be quantum physics.
But that's just my personal opinion.

so is it a coincidence that the females have their mouth covered and the male not ?

Yes, for the most part.
Female characters tend to be the ones with their faces exposed the most. Best way to stand out is to invert that trend.
