Description In this one I have Violator sneaking up on Spawn ready to attact. Spawn is no slouch though. He's got the green glowing stuff ready to go! I cant seem to draw enough Spawn stuff lately. The character is very interesting and I'm having a blast on the Wacom so I had to do it. Hope you like it. Comments are always welcome. Stop back soon to see more please. Have a great day!

Haha, wow! What a thrilling scene. I love how we can all see that Violator is gonna get a bit of a smackin' soon. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="LOL"/> What I love most about this artwork is how you control the level of details to direct the viewer's attention. This is great because it makes the entire picture more readable and doesn't overwhelm us with too much eye-candy. I have to mention that you did quite an excellent job painting Violator's coarse and almost scaly skin. Violator's face is my personal favourite part of this piece. Its just sickeningly violent. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m… " width="29" height="15" alt="" title="EVIL Laughter!"/>

Ok, ok, so I admit that I have never read any American comic books, let alone Spawn but what I have done after seeing your artwork is look through some series of it's comic covers. What I realize is that the colour black is mainly used to emphasize how dark and mysterious Spawn is as a character. You succeeded in making him appear that way. The problem is that applying too much black in the background kills the 'mystery factor' of that character. Contrast in colours is a key factor in determining what roles each character plays. Of course the hero has to look different than the villain. If the overall colour of Spawn is a dark blue-ish hue, why not increase the yellowish hue of Violator? Or maybe reduce the intensity of the shadow on Spawn's cape and paint the red more vibrant so as to make it the dominating colour. Do you get where I'm going here?

What is the intended mood of this artwork? I can tell from the brush strokes of the background that this is an action scene; that something is about to happen and so the excitement and surprise element is suspended in that scene. But because of the black colour, the energy of this image is dulled down. Why not substitute the black colour in the background with red or orange next time?

On a different note, I applaud your ability to portray such clear and strong emotions on both of the character's face and posture. Your strength in this area is what allows the viewers to separate which is the more human and the other a monster despite how similar they look (e.x: the eyes). Unfortunately, I apologize but I'm having trouble determining who is the hero here. You did a good job in highlighting Spawn's muscles but if you study any comic covers, you'll notice that the hero is always on top. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/r/r… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Razz)"/> But here, Violator looks like he's dominating our hero. This transforms our hero into a victim. But this is all a matter of composition.

All in all, I believe that this is a marvelous piece of art simply because it looks terrifying at one glance and if I take another look, I can indulge myself in little details such as the skull clipping Spawn's cape. If there is anything you're not clear about what I've said, don't hesitate to ask. I'm totally cool with you disagreeing on any of my points but I would be curious to know why. I'm also open to further discussion regarding this artwork because as great as it already looks, I believe that it still has a potential to improve. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

I wouldn't mind knowing if my critique has been helpful or is there a lot of 'holes' in it. Anyways, good luck on your future works.

First off, let me say thank you for your time in viewing and responding to my art. I do think you have some very valid points. It sounds as if you are more advanced than I am in the use and idea of colour. I traditionally worked in all black and white for most of my art time. I have recently in the past few years tried to be more confident in coloring my art. I do see what your saying with the mood of the piece. More yellow in the moster would help convey the feeling that he is the villian. I have him in the more dominent role because he is sneaking up on the hero, Spawn. But Spawn is fully ready to respond with his powers ready to go. I almost picture him turning sharply and blasting a hole the size of Kansas in the monsters belly.

I will try to play with a few colour variations to pull different modes from the piece. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and have a great day!
