Once a brilliant French scientist, Andre Ribault was a leading mind in the fields of medicine and biochemistry. Yet not all was as it originally seemed. In private, Ribault was up to shady dealings, such as when he purchased an orphaned gorilla from poachers in order to splice it with human DNA so as to increase its IQ, as well as creating a medicine for the living fossil, General Immortus, by isolating the restorative enzymes of the Lazarus Pits which provide those who bathe in it with longevity. Then, one day, he was caught in a lab explosion, and was presumed dead. However, his brain survived, and the gorilla he experimented upon, Mallah, was his greatest asset. Upon being granted a new robotic container for a body, Ribault later discovered that the so-called "accident" was really an act of sabotage done by American mad scientist, Niles Caulder, his own colleague. Caulder hoped to insert Ribault's brain into a robotic body as part of his plan to create a superhero team of metahuman outcasts by arranging "accidents" on successful people - the same type of accident that destroyed his body. Feeling betrayed, Ribault swore revenge. Taking the name of "The Brain", he and the gorilla he now called "brother", Monsieur Mallah, founded the Brotherhood of Evil to exact vengeance against Caulder and his team, the Doom Patrol.

So, the Brain was relatively easy to draw, seeing as he's just a disembodied brain. As you can tell, I was going for a look inspired by his appearance in the OG Teen Titans anime series, since that was how I was introduced to the character. I just only reworked the skull design to make him appear more villainous and terrifying. And yes, the rest of his containment unit does look somewhat like a Dalek without the blaster and suction mechanisms. Given that he no longer has a body, the Brain effectively is considered dead of all emotions. However, he can still speak. Whenever he does speak, though, the LED lights in his eyes and mouth will flash bright red, except when he is irate or goes on a tirade against the Doom Patrol.

His hatred for them was so deep that it led him to collude with a Nazi war criminal named Hermann Zahl, who was once admiral of Hitler's star fleet of U-Boats during WWII. With Zahl's equal hatred for Caulder and the Doom Patrol, the Brain engineered a plan to eradicate the whole team in one go. The Doom Patrol was rounded up and placed on an island rigged to explode, just off the coast from the small city of Codsville, ME - which boasted a population of 14 people. Brain and Zahl gave the Doom Patrol a choice: either the town would be blown to bits and the lives of all 14 people would be extinguished, or the Doom Patrol would be sent to meet their maker in 2 minutes. To further complicate matters, the team's every word and action was broadcast across the world. However, the Brain didn't count on an unforeseen variable: the Doom Patrol's newest and youngest member, Garfield Logan, AKA Beast Boy, who managed to avoid capture by turning into a microscopic flea. Even though he managed to defeat the Brotherhood of Evil, he couldn't stop Zahl from killing his teammates, including his surrogate mother, Rita Farr, AKA Elastigirl.

Ultimately, this plan of the Brain's backfired on him, as the Doom Patrol's sacrifice only increased their popularity - something he hoped would decrease once he revealed to the world the fraud that Niles Caulder really was. Restless and unsatisfied with another defeat, the Brain's actions left Beast Boy the sole surviving member of the Doom Patrol, and thus the Brotherhood of Evil suffered its final defeat at the hands of the new team that Beast Boy helped to found: the Teen Titans.
