Description
yesterday while chasing after cute lil butterflies i ran up on this ugly booger. i stepped forward and a bug of some sort jumped/flew into his web and he proceeded to wrap him up all nice and neat. now as gross as this spidey is. i was fascinated by him wrapping up his mealanywho hos entire web was so big it was taking over a good part of the back yard and he is a rather big spidey. i did not kill him. when russ came home russ removed him and relocated him to a new place. i am sure he will be back in his old place soon. they tend to come back.
anywho if ya get the chance full view. he is scary and hairy

I don't see very many good spider-on-web shots very often but this one is near the top of the list. Great job.

Reminds me of a spotted orbweaver ~ but a bit hairier! Maybe genus Neoscona? Good luck on the search!

he is in fact a humpbacked orbweaver (Eustala anastera) you were right on. i contacted someone from the university of texas and he identified it for me. he said it was unusual to see their webs up and out catching prey in the day. they are nocturnal and remove the web come morning and put a new one come dusk.
just thought i would let you know i got it identified
