Peter was not amused.

Not only did Sqee, his own personal octopus summon, jump off his head, when Peter strictly told him not to, but now was across the street sitting on some girls’ lap.

With an aggravated sigh, Peter trekked across the road to retrieve his misbehaving, squigy companion, who he would later punish for its unpredictable outburst.

Yes! It would have to be something mean, something evil, like no ice-cream for Sqee.

He approached the sitting girl with mournful distaste. He avoided all eye contact and he attempted to snatch Sqee and walk away, praying that there was no need for any communication with the girl. Not that Peter was an introvert; he just wanted to eat some ice-cream and quick.

Sqee, however, had other plans. It wrapped its little tentacles around the girls’ leg firmly and looked up defiantly at Peter. To the untrained eye, Sqee’s face did in fact not change what-so-ever, but Peter understood Sqee, in ways that nobody should ever understand.

“What do you mean ‘She needs help?’” Peter voice rang out, aggravation lace in each syllable.

The girl looked up towards Peter, about to ask him what he was talking about, but saw that the frowning boy did not direct his question at her, but at the at the strange creature who had attached itself to her leg. Was the creature his? He seemed to understand it was saying, well not saying, since all it did was smile. He also said ‘She needs help’ did he mean her? Did he know about her quest to find the kettle? Intriudge, she kept silence see how this scene would play out.

“What she needs need help with is getting you off her!”

“8D”

“Don’t give me that look-.”

“8D”

“I know help is good-“

“8D”

“I’m not giving her a card-“

“For goodness sakes! I said no-“

“Ok, ok. I’ll ask her. Now let go of her…”

And with that said, Sqee let go of the girl’s leg and prudently latched itself onto the front of Peter’s chest, as if its hug was a prize for doing the right thing.

With a sigh, Peter lifted his gaze to the girl’s face for the first time. He eyes traveled from the tips of her hair, which were blond, to the curve of her jaw line, her cheek bones- and that’s when he noticed it. The large gash that ran diagonally across her face. His eyes had traveled from tip to tip, his brow furrowed even further when he noticed that it was bleeding slightly. Had this just happened know? Was she attacked? Is she alright? Peter felt a twinge in his chest; he had been so preoccupied with his own problems that he didn’t even realize that there was someone hurt right in front of him.

The girl had noticed that the boy had finished arguing with his smiley octopus, and had actually lost his argument. She was thinking about how their conversation made Peter look quite funny, when Peter’s voice cut through her thoughts.

“Hello!” He declared in a clear voice. “My name is Peter, and this is Sqee.” He nodded towards the smiling blob attached to his chest. “And we would like to inform you that you have won a “Free Help” card from yours truly. 100% no strings attached. I will help you with one thing until you are happy.” He ended with a grin as he produced the card from his pants pocket with the words “1 Free Help” printed on the front and handed it to the girl.

The blond girl accepted it, her eyes skimming the card over and over again. Free help? Hah. Who in their right mind would do something and expect nothing in return, there would have to be a catch somewhere.

“Anything?” she narrowed her eyes, looking for any trace of deception in the frowning boys eyes.

The boy looked poignantly at her, feeling slightly hurt that she didn’t believe him. Then broke out into a smile, his help success rate way 99%. He was sure he could help her!

“Anything.” He said confidently.

The girl’s eyes widened slightly at the boy’s answer, but soon softened at the joyful look on his face and the determined look in his eye. She found herself smiling with him as well.

“Thank you!” She replied happily.

“So… Miss-“

“Anna is fine”

“So Anna, what is it you need help with?”

“Well you see, I’m searching for a kettle.”

“A kettle?”

“Yes, one that can grant your every wish…”
