Description

Two lovely ladies I admire are opening up a really cute pokegijinka rp group that's based in a Japanese fantasy setting. So of course I've gotta follow my bae in cause I absolutely love the concept <33 And I'm super stoked. <33 Normally when I finish my apps I get second thoughts about the way I draw them, but this time I'm surprisingly very happy with the way my new son turned out. You should definitely check it out if you get the chance. <33

An enigmatic wandering artist; Kin travels the world on a search for 'absolute beauty', though he is extremely vague about what that actually is. He doesn't care to involve himself in the affairs of other people, instead choosing to remain as a spectator on the outside, using those he observes as a muse for his next painting. From afar, Kin possesses an air of mystery and secrecy to him, never really divulging into any details about himself or where he comes from and being almost frustratingly ambiguous when he actually does. Though upon closer inspection one might come to find out that Kin garbs a rather... awful personality.

He's calculative; always getting people to do things for him while never really bothering to lend a hand to people who need help themselves. He takes a lot of pride in his experiences and his work, often using it as a crux for all of his choices and actions in life. He constantly flaunts his talent for praise and will even use it as an excuse not to do anything, often spouting that a spontaneous jolt of artistic inspiration has hit him so that he can focus on that instead of what is asked of him from other people. He will even get irate towards people who insist on bothering him and pulling his attention from his work... or his 'break' from work.

He had an apparent obsession with beauty and youth, even to the point where he will openly display disgust towards things and people he views as 'ugly' and will outright avoid them. On the other hand he is almost magnetically drawn towards beautiful women (and on occasion men too), often asking them if he can paint them naked, which he is almost always violently refused (normally resulting in him getting punched). He often describes himself as a romantic, but that's normally just an excuse for him to be a perv.

He seems to have a strong fear of commitment, though if you asked him about it, he would promptly deny this with the excuse that he is simply a free spirit. He also appeared to passionately dislike tradition and obligations as he feels they are just ways to chain people down, even going as far as to mocking people who live by the book. This could very well have something to do with his past, but all of that is about as cryptic as the face that hides behind the mask.

♦ B A C K G R O U N D ♦

Kaonashi, also known as the 'faceless village', is a mysterious settlement which hails far to the north in the bitter cold ice-lands. Generations ago, these lands were known as a valley of death; People ended up here for many reasons, though it had generally become the dumping ground for the weak, sick, and disfigured whom their relatives no longer wish to take care of. A majority of these abandoned souls were children and babies, left to their icy and tragic fate simply because they were deemed too grotesque to live. The people of Kaonashi are comprised specifically of these people; rejects, disfigured, unloved... all living together peacefully, constantly taking in new strays that are abandoned in the valley of death.

The village derived its name from their custom to hide their faces behind masks; even at a very young age they do this as a way of being equal among one another, regardless of their outward appearance. Each villager carves and wears their own mask, only taking them off when they are absolutely alone, the only other exception being if you are betrothed. This strange custom can perhaps be the village's way of protecting its people from the judgment of outsiders and even each other. So it comes as no surprise that the elder is extremely protective of the villagers and that the entirety of Kaonashi acts as one giant family unit, referring to each other as brothers and sisters and their elder as grandfather.

Protect Kaonashi and protect eachother. Trust no outsiders. Never invite misfortune upon the village by removing your mask. These have been the three most sacredly protected laws of Kaonashi for generations.

Kin was much like his brothers and sisters; a mutilated child left out to die in the cold, taken in by the people of Kaonashi and raised as one of them. Though initially a very shy and timid child, Kin grew up an exceptionally talented young man. He was skilled with a sword, serving as one of the protectors and scouts for the village. But even more so, he was skilled with a brush, and developed a passion for art. This caused him to develop a bad reputation among his brothers and sisters, as he was known to slack off from his actual duties to go paint despite his promising skills as a warrior. Kin had no interest in participating in what he viewed as the same old thing everyday, and this caused him to argue with the village elder quite often.

As he grew older, Kin began noticing gaping flaws within the rules that the villagers had obeyed almost religiously. They were closed off from the world, unfriendly towards outsiders, never bothering to step foot outside of the safety of their haven and hiding themselves behind masks solely out of fear and superstition. Kin loved his people, he loved the entire village, but he grew spiteful towards the laws that kept them safe for so long, citing them as nothing but needless fear-mongering. Out of frustration, Kin had begun sneaking out of Kaonashi, visiting the settlement that resided safely outside of the ice lands. He had become so enamored with the people that lived without fear of hiding behind masks, he had began frequently painting them. He didn't realize the weight of his actions in doing something he has viewed as completely innocent.

His last fight with the elder had been particularly unpleasant. Kin's fellow brothers had discovered Kin's paintings of the outside world, alerting their grandfather of his recklessness, causing him to storm into Kin's home and destroy his art. His had enraged the young artist; finally all of his inner frustrations had began to boil over. He told him that he hated the village. He hated their customs and laws. He hated the people that lived there. All of his brothers and sisters he had grown up side by side with had watched in horror as he had refuted the idea that they had ever been a real family, but simply just a collection of rejects that had no choice but to depend on each other. Too ugly to have any place in the outside world.

Within the bone-chilling silence, he regretted those words. He didn't mean it. Regardless, he had already forsaken his home and his people. It was too late to apologize. Perhaps in one last fit of stubbornness, Kin packed all of his things and left without even so much as a goodbye. Nobody tried to stop him.

After the remorse and the heartbreak had subsided, Kin found himself feeling strangely liberated at his selfish actions. For the first time he had been free to do what he wanted, go where he pleases, and paint however much his heart desired. He had at first been almost overwhelmed at how beautiful the outside world was, but alas, he knew he didn't belong there. Perhaps it was the deep-seeded fear that had been implanted by Kaonashi, but Kin had still found himself clinging desperately to their custom, hiding behind his mask and protectively keeping where he came from a secret, hoping that one day he could be swayed into abandoning his mask for good.

  • Stands at about 5'7" without his shoes.
  • Yes, he can see just fine with the mask on. Asking him to take it off will only offend him.
  • He does own a sword and is quite capable with it as he used to be a warrior in his village.
  • Can't stand children, they're noisy and they ruin his concentration.
  • Does tend to behave quite crudely towards men (unless they're beautiful, then that's another story.)
  • Though he does seem to respect those who have an affinity for art.

I was also discussing a few ideas with another member from the group and we decided to link our babies stories together somehow xD but thank you for taking the time to go back and read vuv

He is absolutely beautiful!! You did impeccable wonders with his design, and being of partial Japanese descent, I find myself getting extremely giddy each time I look at him and how accurate this is to some clothing designs I've seen IRL. The red and black compliment each other wonderfully and that gold accent lining the edges puts a very dignified detail to his overall appearance! I'm also quite fond of the way you accounted for the tail, as well as the fur above a Zorua's head-- It looks very much like an old hair style you might see in long ago eras! It also resembles a paint brush to some degree, which I find quite cute. (Speaking of brushes, good touch on the bird that seems to rising out of his scroll!)

Zorua has always been a favourite of mine, but most people draw the line as females when it comes to gijinka, so I'm pleasantly surprised to find a male one for a change! And a very pretty one at that, though I wonder if Kin would prefer his art to be called beautiful rather than himself? His backstory is very well written and I can see why that'd make anyone feel rather apprehensive to the thought of any committed relationship. If your own family has betrayed you then it's hard to want to open up to anyone else. Quite sad and unfortunate, but I don't doubt any one of us artists would be exceptionally upset and aggressive if someone trashed our hard work, especially if they were a loved one. Perhaps one day he'll find someone or something moving enough to inspire him to take off his mask and/or make amends with his family. Anything that could make this precious bean a little bit happier.

I'd love to see more artwork of him in the future, should you draw more! His design seems like a time consumer with how detailed it is (not a bad thing in the slightest though!) so I wouldn't be surprised if it'd be a bit scarce. I'll eagerly await to hear more of his story too, should you be able to share any of it! Your writing is immensely lovely and it always inspires me to get back into my own stories whenever I'm having a block or feeling blue about it. Keep up the good work! <3

sorry for the wall of text, your characters are always a joy to look at, but damn this one really makes me smile-- 10/10 would totes romance him in a game, quality husbando material

I'm sorry it took me so long to reply to this!! To be honest I was kind of shocked to see the wall of text and I got scared that someone was chewing me out LOL But after reading it I was really overwhelmed by how nice you were sobs <333

Thank you so much for all the sweet words, it's the first time that someone's made me such an in depth and commented on my writing. It was really unexpected. I've been having a kind of rough past few days but it honestly cheered me right up.

I'm really happy you like my dumb son, it makes me especially happy to know someone actually reads those ridiculous walls of texts. All of it really made my week, thankyou so much again!! /)v(\ I'm sure I'm gonna read it over a million more times <33333

OH WHOOPS-- I'm sorry about that actually, I didn't stop to think about how intimidating that might of been!
I'm glad I could make you happy with my silly ramblings though!
The son is a cutie!! I really really like just staring at him tbh because he looks so pretty and his personality shows through in his elegant but kinda arrogant body language, which just makes me love him more honestly, such a good man <3
And I know it took me a while to respond too but I hope you've had a much better week thus far!

And thank you for the watch too! Though I admit I don't have a lot to offer cause 90% of what I draw doesn't get uploaded here |D
Though that's admittedly been partially out of some really stupid fear that my original stuff will get stolen or people will hate them
But I think seeing you openly share your characters and stories has been one of many sources kinda helping me maybe get the confidence I need to show my dumb characters!
So thank you for that! no promises though, i'm a slow bean and i hate uploading anything that isn't done because i'm finicky
<33333 Take care of yourself~
