Your name is SHAIKO GALOUS.
You have a large number of INTERESTS, all of which do not involve other trolls. Of all of your interests, your passion is PLAYING A NUMBER OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, all of which you have taught yourself how to play. While you love all of your instruments, your favorite one is your precious VIOLA, which you found on the ocean floor and now use constantly. Your other interests include WRITING AND SEWING. Directly connected with your love of sewing is your love of COSTUMES AND FANCY CLOTHING. You love making them and often larp in them by yourself. Sometimes, you’ll WRITE A STORY AND PERFORM IT in your respite block, often with music included, though you find it quite hard to RECITE LINES AND PLAY AN INSTRUMENT at the same time. Even when you find a way to do so you rarely continue to do so for very long because you FEEL EXTREMELY STUPID WHILE DOING IT. You don’t SOCIALIZE with people in real life, but you have befriended many people ONLINE. You use a program called TROLLIAN to talk to them because it was the first program you saw when your lusus told you to GO MAKE SOME FRIENDS. To your surprise, you were able to do this very easily due to your FRIENDLY AND OFTEN GENTLEMANLY NATURE. on rare occasion will i accept any non-royal sea dweller, but adding a conspicuous shark tail on top of that? that isnt even how mutation works.

That is, however how evolution works. If the body needs something in order for it to succeed, it can, in certain instances undergo anomalous adaptations.

but it will not directly mimic the tail of an animal that may or may not exist on its planet, on a place in which it would be useless unless this trolls ancestors were dumbasses who swam with their knees tucked into his chest. Adaptation takes time, generations of time, generations that would equate to eons with the troll system of breeding.

Not necessarily. Even you say that this evolution would take eons of time, that does not mean this character is even contemporary with the events on the canon timeline. Not to mention, ocean dwellers, especially offshoots (non-primary adaptation carriers, like those who possess the best swimming ability, etc.) are quite possible. One who cannot swim the best may offshoot with a tail, because their specific evolution believes that a tail will be the best way to help the species survive (even if it may not); after all, not all adaptations in OUR world were the only of their kind, just the ones that survived the longest, are the ones we see. Even if that all were 100% true, the catch-all is they are trolls; they are aliens. Who fuckin' knows how they adapt, or how quickly?

thing is, the tail would be USELESS to the character. The blue caste is land-dwelling, and the structure of the most blatantly obvious alternian culture tells that such a mutation would not be allowed, let alone an obvious mutation such as that intensely useless and overall purely asthetic tail.
And no creature can simply sprout a new limb at the moment when it is useful, and creatures so far apart as a shark and a mammal/insect would not evolve a similar trait.
It would make sense for those of sea-dwelling caste to adapt webbed, finlike hands and feet, but the humanoid structure of the trolls skeletal system makes a tail useless for swiming. the tail would simply bash against the legs and would not be nearly as effective as webbed footing.

Aight, well, I looked it up, and no where on the wiki does it say that sea-dwellers are only highbloods, infact, it says that the highest bloods are exclusive to ocean class, but that' doesn't mean that only the highestbloods are sea-dwellers, in fact, that means that it's very plausible that blue bloods are sea-dwellers. That aside, it'd be more likely that a species would develop a tail that would help them swim, instead of webbed hands and feet, at least at first. Like i said, if the species is not the fastest swimmer, a tail would be a huge advantage over something that small. It'd be way easier, and more likely that a troll would simply change swimming styles to something more along the lines of a shark, if they developed a tail like that, or vice versa, the tail would evolve from swimming like a shark.

your theory would explain if the creature in question had the entire lower half of its body replaced. the tail as it is is useless in its placement. its like putting sets of wings on your ankles to help you fly.
also, as i said, "swimming like a shark" would not give you a perfectly on color shark tail, and swimming like a shark requires a lack of legs. dolphins, whales, and fish in general swim the exact same way by the way, and does every single fucking thing have a shark tail?

Ok, number 1, calm your tits, you're taking this way too seriously.
2, trolls are already grey, and so are most sharks, heir-go, the color doesn't matter, it will probably be grey regardless.
3, whales, sharks, and dolphins do NOT swim the same way, which is why their tails are different. 
4, it is very possible to swim like a shark with or without a tail. It's a style of swimming in which the body's head and feet move in a "figure-eight" type shape to propel themselves through the water.

6. Before you question the swimming method, that IS how sharks swim, their figure-eight shape is just a lot flatter and looks like a side-to-side motion, but a side-to-side motion would not allow them to change their position on a Y plane (speaking in terms of an X,Y,Z grid).

Listen, your arguement literally just puts us back at step one: If they need a mutation such as a tail to swim, it's pretty likely that it will eventually grow one. if you teach your children to walk like a couple of dunces, they will not become dinosaur-like because they don't need to to survive adequately in their environment.

well the issue of your tail is that evolution is gradual. the tail would not be immediately useful as a small tail, where as webbed feet/hands would.
the evolution of a tail does not make sense because its gradual.

It's sort of a long story, but the shortened version is he has genes from a land troll and a sea troll, and the unique situation caused mutations which gave him the shark tail and fin (I hope I explained that correctly).
