HD VersionThis one really took forever. I seriously had no idea what I was doing for most of it. The shoulder sprawl got completely redesigned from the original lineart. I tried to make the feather part of the sleeves semi-transparent, but had no idea how to really color the rest of it. Spent way too long on the skirt too. Definitely no more frills from now on. There are 2 more girls from the lineart but considering how long Hu-er and Yuzu took I'm going to take a break and work on some VRO ideas for a while.
Background Info
Lin Yuzu (林玉竹) is one of the primary protagonists of my Wuxia story Companion of the Moonlit Blade (月刀俠侶). She's an imperial princess who was forced to flee to the world of Jiang Hu due to the political in fighting of the Imperial Court. I'm not going to go into too much detail on her because the first 4-5 chapters of the story will be done from her point of view.
Originally Guan Yunte(關雲特) was supposed to be the starting POV and Yuzu's backstory was not going to be revealed later, but after doing some initial outlining Yuzu's backstory just seemed to be a much more interesting starting off point. Since she's entering the world of Jiang Hu from an outsider perspective, it gives me a lot of room to introduce the more esoteric terms of the Wuxia. It also gives a good way of comparing the abilities of Jiang Hu exponents compared to normal fighters.

It's because Photoshop is a 'production' software. A lot of people make money off of it so they can charge more for it than a piece of entertainment. Plus they have a virtual monopoly over the market.

This entire thing is amazing. My favorite touch is the swords. But really, the entire thing... the lighting, the anatomy, the shading, balls. You have an amazing career ahead of you. Keep it up!

WOW!!! Absolutely stunning like always! What software did you used? You defeated so well the coloring, I like the way that you did the transparency, I don't know If you use one layer to color or more than one, I usually use another layer with the transparent fabrics (lineart and colouring) and I erase with the airbrush what I need or I lower the opacity but I have to say that I love the way that you did that, so keep up the good work!

I used Photoshop CC. I use a large number of layers. I think there's almost 30 in total, but the sleeves portion is is using 5. There's the base color layer, soft shadows, hard shadows, ambient, and overlayer. I airbrushed the skin tones onto the soft shadow layer here.

I usually use a lot of layers too. Would you recommend me using Photoshop? I have Photoshop since I started drawing and before using paint tool sai, but I never used for sketching, painting... etc. I found it so difficult, I feel so strange with the pressure (may have bad settings), and with brushes I feel strange too xD (I have only a few custom brushes). I will have to make backgrounds soon and improve more for a collaboration with a page and I don't know If I should change my software.

Hmm. I think you can do well with any of the popular painting programs. Don't a lot of Japanese artists use Paint Tool SAI? If you want to try out photoshop the only 2 brushes I use for painting are the hard round brush pen pressure size (manually adjust opacity) and the soft round brush tool (airbrush basically) with no pressure sensitivity.
For pencils and inking I like using these 2 brush sets:

You're right no matter the software you can be so good also using paint xD (seriously I saw a lot of good people with it) but now I feel so comfortable with paint tool sai and I'm not pretty happy with the results. Changing the software always let me experiment more with shading and painting although if I return to paint tool sai I'll be better, I'm a bit strange! Thanks for all again! You're so kind!
