Description
Was originally gonna call it storybook. But since that's not a ordinary book and more of a projection I decided to change the name. Anyway it's Nixious my old and brought back FC looking through a "book" as a smeet.Related content

"StoryProjector" by RoboticMasterMind is Invader Zim fan art that shows off an impressive amount of detail in the main focus as well as Robotic's talent for recreating and embellishing the style and designs in the original show.
An analysis of the artwork, specifically the projection, gives me reason to believe that this isn't simply a display that is "viewing only". Based on the two circular portions on either side of the projection, along with the miniature Irken icons in the middle of them that are at different angles, I get the strong impression that the projection is actually a reel-to-reel. It's based on either that or a tape deck, with the two circular, spinning components. This means that the Irken smeet is much more likely to be listening to the story, not necessarily watching it. Thus is why I don't think that the title of the picture is too fitting. But at the same time, "Storybook" doesn't exactly fit, either. I would suggest renaming it to something that fits a little better, yet is unique to the device that Robotic created here.
As for the projection itself, it is exceptionally well done. Everything from the circles, details, and angle is flawless from what I can see. The best aspect is that it actually looks like a hologram projection due to the lighting, glow, and features of the base of the machine. It's not too intense, but it's not too dim. I would bet that this took quite a while to make, and if it did, it was time well spent.
My biggest complaint about this picture would have to be the background details, such as those on the sides of the picture. While the main focus is extremely detailed and exact in appearance, the background seems to have been a little rushed; the pipes on the left and northeast edges of the picture are not as smooth and agreeable with the lighting. The shading on these pipes seems to be coming from the direct sides of them, which isn't based on the foreground projection. The curves of the lines aren't particularly smooth. Rather, they curve sharply and change the size of the pipe endings. Fixing the dimensions of the pipes, as well as receding some of those portions of shade to change their light location to fit the glowing projection, would fix this problem.
As for the large, circular object attached to the wall to the north of the picture, directly to the northeast of the smeet's head, its middle line doesn't match the curve of the line showing the connection of the object to the wall. The line, to be exact, that is just to the left of where the pipe enters the large object, has less curve in its middle. Adding a little more curve to it, in order to match the line representing the junction between the object and the wall, would remedy this and fix its irregular shape.
The picture overall really isn't bad; it only needs a few touch-ups to the background is all.

Thanks for the critique!
Though the projection is based on the opening of a book, and the symbols and shape is based off ancient writings like what diva has mentioned in a comment www.xenophilia.com/zb/zb0021/cā¦
Some of the things in the picture isn't exactly supposed to be the same size too since it is in perspective.

Yeah, smeet is a Irken word for their young.
It is rather cute though.

Yeah I'm going for highly detailed and stylized alien tech. Practicing it more

can't wait to see more then!! did you do the projection circles yourself or was it a brush?

RoboticMasterMind In reply to FortheLoveofKei [2013-07-24 03:52:25 +0000 UTC]
I used a brush but tweaked it to have more Irken symbols. Yeah, it was those rare moments that I was lazy, and didn't feel like drawing the tech circles this time. I downloaded them a long time ago, the brushes so I forgot where I downloaded them.
Usually I would draw them on my own using the circle oblique tool, and a hard brush but there are times when the laziness hits

Awesome job on this. The shading looks great, and I really like the effects and the perspective. You put a lot of detail in it too. Over all this is a fantastic picture! ^^

in my mind i find it kind of ironic that the Aztecs and other "primitive" civilizations used circular stones to tell stories (like their calendar) and then it's used here as a story book for an advanced alien race.... (i'm just thinking like a conspiracy theorist, XD something i rarely do)
look's awesome though! i love how the StoryProjector looks as well as everything else.

It seems a lot of alien based things use circular based writings. I suppose the trend did come from Aztecs and technology based on ancient civilizations. Either way I think rounded touch screens, writings, and holographic images suit the Irkens technology.

I'm trying to get more into making everything full of more detailed technology and Irken-y backgrounds. So I'm constantly going to try to draw lots of tech.
