This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my best friend's mom, but Christmas turned into her birthday, and her birthday turned into Easter, and now I'm finally done in time for mother's day (I guess.) I actually started it in autumn, hence the colored leaves and dreary sky.It's not that it took me that long, I just kept putting it off because I felt like I made a horrible decision when I decided to paint it with a hatching line. Time-consuming, yes, but the product is the first CG I've turned out since October that isn't just a silly headshot or a character portrait. I guess that "horrible decision" wasn't so bad after all.
This was painted with Photoshop CS, 9x12" at 300 DPI. Here is a full-resolution closeup:

holy hell this is amazing ashley. i am not even kidding :0 the hatching looks AMAZING. its totally oil painty. the birds mesh into the bg so awesomely and her HAIR. its got to be some of the best hair you've ever done. its just so WOODSY or something. fits nicely with the charater and the setting. love the shading too oh bebe ;; send some of that talent my way pls.

Dude, the details in this are incredible, and I think it's sort of interesting that they seem maginified by the coloring style you used, which, by the way, I love. I love the varying line movements and how they compliment each other, and you've pulled off the impression of various light sources really well. I love the background and the birds, and I really like the unique features of the face. and the lips omigoodness I love the wild hair and the strong light source there as well. Beautiful work!

wow. the whole image is, of course, overwhelmingly beautiful, but for whatever reason, what really drives your skills at achieving this painty masterpiece home for me is the way you have lighted the very crown of her head. this is gorgeous, masterful stuff.
