Description Book, I've Been Avoiding You

Because I don't want to write it down.
But Kitty is dead
As of Sunday.
I held her as close as I could
While he injected lethal concoctions
Into her sleepy, cancer-poisoned body.
He left us alone
And we bawled
And stroked her fur
And tried to close her eyes
But her body was so limp
The muscles so relaxed
That they kept opening again
When we touched her pretty face.
She was so cold
So soon
Too soon.
She was so alive
Just the day before
For those happy nine years or so.
I had never loved so much
I have never felt so alone in this room
With all her things
And the remnants of her last meal.
I can only hope she isn't suffering now
And she has plenty to eat.

I hate those people who insert themselves into someone else's poetry saying things like "THIS IS TOTALLY MY LIFE WTHGKHBNHDKSGNF", but... this is totally my life. Well, sort of. We had to euthanise my dog, Lucky, two years ago and I can sympathise with this poem very easily.

There's a lot of raw emotion here (which makes for the best kind of poetry) enveloping a bittersweet story. It's haunting but innocent and sad. The last two lines are my favourite. It's sweet, honest, and completely you.

How long was Lucky with you? I bet he was a happy doggy with you : D

Baaw, thank you. <3 You always know exactly what to say!

It was very sad and I miss her dearly, but I have so many lovely memories with my Kitty. (:3 Like when she'd walk into the bathroom and sit on the back of the toilet while I was doing my business, and how we thought she ran away that one time but she was hiding behind a couch cushion, or even recently when we both sat on the grass in the backyard together.

He was with us for fourteen years (he was two when we got him). I like to think he was happy!

You are most welcome, my dear <3

The happy memories are what make any death worth it. You and I can't see Kitty or Lucky again (or for a while, if there's some awesome animal/person afterlife), but we can remember all the fun times we had together and how much we loved each other, and that will help heal.

Animals are such lovely companions! I would never wish that I hadn't shared all those years with Kitty in order to spare myself this heartache. It's a happy thought that maybe we'll all be reunited again one day, and if not, you and i sure had a hell of a time together with our furry friends when we did : D

Indeed! It's a double-edged sword having a pet. They're fantastic, but they die so much sooner than people. That makes the time we have with them that much more precious and enjoyable, though.
