Description
This is loosely based on a drawing I made back in 2002 named "Before I Lose Everything", after a song from the now disbanded Mighty Man and Yuk. But instead of making the same thing, I gave it a bit of a happier tone. Here's the link for the old piece: [link]The smoke bubbles idea was taken from that time back in 2002 when one of my friends thought that she could make everyone in our group quit smoking by giving everyone a bubble maker. (She followed the logic that we'd be too preoccupied to light a cigarette while we were busy making bubbles.) A few moments later, one of us lit a cigarette and blew smoke into some bubbles. They looked so nice, everyone else lit up and no one was able to quit smoking.

oh, this is very lovely.
now i'm dying to try the smoke bubbles myself. good thing summer's fast approaching; i reckon a cigarette, a beer, and some bubbles will go very nicely whilst sitting on a porch with friends in the sunshine.

I love how the background and foreground are sorta set appart (dont know how to properly explain it) It simply looks great! The coloring is great too. I really love this.
The story behind it was amusing to read. Makes me wish i smoked something so i could try to blow a smoke bubble (well, not really to be honest). I just happen to have a bottle of bubble soap that hardens in the air so the bubles dont pop...

I know its weird to comment on this, and I bet I'm the only one... but I love the cats expression of passive dissapointment.

That's an interesting take on the cat. I just thought it's a nice balance to the girl's wistful and vaguely content or happy expression.

This is fantastic! I love the colours, and what would usually be black in a pic is red here. A little like an old polaroid :} The pose and subject is really cute. I really enjoyed seeing the old version also. It's always cool to see someone reinvent an older work of theirs

I love the calm, almost melancholic feel this has to it - And the smoke bubbles concept is way cool. I love the background you did here, it is so soft and creamy, and still you got that "city-feeling" right. The character looks really interesting, and the cat really adds to the picture. The only crit I have is that the arm that is reaching for the smokebubble seems a little too thick right below the elbow, but that could be me just looking at it the wrong way.
The choice of colour for this is also wonderful, did you pick them yourself or did you add effects to the picture when it it was finished? They look really good with the texture and suits the theme very well.
Really a good piece, I wish deviantART had more of stuff like this! :3

I really, really love the subtle gradient here, and the soft textures. Mostly I can really appreciate how you've been bold enough not to touch black at all. It can be such a challenge! I think this shows you have a lot of confidence in your art. Not to mention the pose, the cats expression, the details...shows pride, and a lot of work. Beautiful stuff!
