Description
Dear Mr. Blackbird,I can promise you don't know my name
I can swear upon my mother's empty grave
That you have never seen my face
But yours I have seen, Blackbird.
Your face is as familiar to me as an old friends',
And had I a steady hand to do it
I could trace its lines upon the page
For now, Mr. Blackbird, I will write it instead.
(I have always been better with words.)
Mr. Blackbird,
I cannot claim to love you.
I can only say that I love what I know of you,
Knowledge gained secondhand from shady characters.
What I know to be true are your eyes
That I long to see turned upon me with familiarity and love.
Mr. Blackbird, you cannot understand
Why it is I long for you.
My reasons are not like those of other girls,
I have spent a very long time alone, Blackbird.
I know the color of your eyes,
And the crinkle of your smile--
But I do not know the softness of your hair
Or the heat of your skin.
I do not know the feel of your palms
Or the touch of your lips.
These things are not known to me,
And likely never will be.
You will never read these words, Mr. Blackbird
That I can say for sure
And if ever you see my face or hear my name,
And my passion for you has faded
Then I will know, Mr. Blackbird, that the world is cruel
To a girl whose heart longs only
For what she cannot have.
And so this letter you will never read,
Is signed sincerely as can be, Mr. Blackbird,
By a girl whose name is Crow.
