Try to shut out the sound
The shrieks, the calls
Shut it all out with whatever you can
The loud music the words that stream from your fingers
Through pen or pencil or keys or anything that's handy
Because nothing else will block it out
You can't process it any other way
It's too awful and there's nowhere to hide but inside
There's no place to go but further, further inside yourself
The war just rages on around you and if you don't keep writing
If you stop—God help you—if you stop it will hurt you
Because war is blind it doesn't distinguish between innocent and enemy
It will suck you in mercilessly
So this is the only thing you can do is write
Because it's the wall that protects you the semi-silence that blocks it all out
(or most of it anyway)
Because you can't bear to listen to what's going on
Outside of that wall you've seen it all before
It's lost its bearable nature it's only pure hell now
Because it never never changes ever
It's always ALWAYS the same
