I believe he prefers to be called "Dark" Link.

Neither was I for Ocarina of Time. I only saw the game beaten by watching my brother play.
Anyways, in the dreaded Water Temple, which is known to be extremely difficult to figure out properly without a guide, the mini-boss is a shadow copy of Link.
He was called Dark Link.
This wasn't the only game he appeared in.
Dark Link was in "Legend of Zelda: Four Sword Adventures" for the Gamecube.
You can look up art for Dark Link here on DA.
You only have to enter "dark link".

I do remember him in Four Swords once when my brother and I and a friend played it but we never played it again after that.

Yeah, unlike Ocarina of Time where he showed up only once, Dark Link appeared several times in Four Swords as part of the plot.
