Description
I can't remember if I asked to color this one or if Mike asked me. Which was it Mike? In any case, there's a couple of people that I would color anytime they want. No question. Mike Wieringo is deffinetly on the short list.I really had a blast lighting this one. I don't think Mike is colored to his full potential most of the time, so I wanted to see just how far I could go with it.

Yeah, I miss him a lot too. I was thinking about him a lot the other day. Dug out all my Spidey's and Fantastic Four. Even had some Rogue and Flash. I miss seeing him cons or having his comments popping up on the web. Such a great person he was.

Yeah, myself and Randy Green would go down about once a month and eat lunch with him. Randy was really close to him. It was cool that he was so close to our studio. He was an awesome guy and taught me a lot.

Ok I have seen a lot of people color Mike's work but no one has ever handled his work better then you. You really understand his pencils and mood. Nice.

You should really send my stuff to your next editor and just tell them you want me to color. Maybe just the covers. Unless it's a single issue or a couple. I don't think I could bare a long drawn out thing, even working over your stuff. My brain is growing tired of comics. I'm sure you know what I mean.

"My brain is growing tired of comics. I'm sure you know what I mean."
You are such a talent, I find this terribly distressing.
Is this an financial issue or merely burnout?

It has a lot to do with the idiots in charge. Editors have all the power in this business and they love to prove it.
I love comics, but I'm not doing it their way anymore.

Thatβs a very reassuring sentiment; what Iβm reading into that is that you plan to develop your own property (or at least work under a different heirarchal system)?
If these guys are driving you away from work-for-hire and toward concept development-- then itβs a good thing; you are better served with a stake in the ownership of the material you work on.

Your doing it the right way, bro! Your building up an following on your own! Your skills are amazing and you bring a fresh take on comic art. You should consider Image, from what I read a hear they're sorta hands off after you get accepted and pay some crazy fee. . .( I think the fee is to discourage posers!) In my opinion Image has long shed the EX-Marvel artists (image) and is putting out some of the best new stories and new artist of our day. ( and some great stuff from the old pros to!)

Yeah, I agree. I hate the crappy coloring he gets. You have provided it with some sort of a story, the palette is nice too, unlike the general colorists.

Oh, well there are some really great colorists out there. They really great ones approach it just the way you said. With story.
