Thanks. I would look to James Gurney's Color and Light for color theory. Also perhaps Andrew Loomis's Creative Illustration or Richard Schmid's Alla Prima.

God your oils are beautiful. They are the main reason I went and bought my self a bunch of oil paints however the muddy mess I am getting right is far from this haha. All in good time I am hoping

Hmmm your pieces always make me think I should use my Sable brush more (for strokes like that). Maybe I will, sooner or later. Nice work here.

Thanks! I find sable to weak to push enough paint around to finish a portrait in 2 hours. I usually use natural hog bristle brushes, especially for faster paintings from life.

Whoops! I should know, I started with Hog bristle brushes, and still own/use a bunch. I assumed (also that it was from reference)it was sable because I use a sable filbert to get those scratchy "hair strokes". But then again I usually don't paint from life, and never with oils... so something to try.
