There are some good tutorials for Apophysis here on DA and the program can be downloaded for free here . I use Ultra Fractal , which has free trials available for download. The main difference with the trial version is that you can't render high resolution files. The program comes with some really good tutorials.

wow the patterns remind me of the patterns on a peacock.
very cool colours to combine, just not to sure about the brownish red colour.

I'm not sure about it either. That brownish red is a result of the purple being placed next to the green in the gradient, so the middle point gave me that muddy color.

I'm really sorry for dumping such a big load of fractals on you. They had been piling up, gathering dust for a couple months. My uploads had been greatly exceeded by my work load. Usually I finish one or two fractals per day, but I let them accumulate until I have enough to make it worth the time it takes to open Photoshop on my computer, so I can frame them. I really appreciate your taking the time to look at them all and comment on them.

heheh...please, dump some more!...I tend to go in intense bursts for awhile...wish there was money in this stuff, paying the bills takes too much time from fractals...
I also appreciate your comments, Kathleen...

One day there will be more of a market for fractal art. We just have to overcome the bad reputation fractals have gotten from people loading the internet with stuff that isn't really art. Unfortunately, that's what most people think of when they hear the term "fractal" and they don't know that there is so much beautiful work that they're missing. We also have to overcome the "taint" of being part of digital art. Traditional artists aren't quite ready to accept anything that is made on a computer. But there is hope. My husband finally came around and enjoys looking at the fractals here. As a wildlife artist, he used to be such a purist. If he can change, others will too. We will be accepted as artists down the road if we're patient and don't give up.

totally agree...and so well put...been doing this stuff for 15+ yrs. now; kinda thought (over-optimistically)that fracts would be more "normal" (sort of) by now...and then came the
new dark age of (non)education...for a lot of folks (mostly older), their eyes just glaze over...one needs attention span of interest to 'see' the subtle in complexity...the amazing takes involvement/time to participate in...(wanna see some 'immature fracts' go to Zazzle!)

Another place to view horrible fractals is photobucket. I upload all of mine in wallpaper size so my family members can download, but when I search for "fractals" I get pages of junk in the search results. No wonder people have lost interest.
