Good question. I think it was just supposed to be kind of an absentminded reflex. It's a little hard to remember exactly what I was thinking at the time.

The dog reminds a bit of Brain from Inspector Gadget.

Like I said in the previous submission in which I charted his development, I'm pretty sure he was initially inspired by Brain, although that thought didn't occur to me until many years later. It's a little annoying to realize you might be unwittingly ripping-off your ideas from somewhere else.

You know, this actually DOES happen. I work as a collector for a company and some people really do that. They finish talking and then wait two minutes until the beep shows up, just to frustrate telemarketers. Bet they didn't realize it'll piss off their doctor's secretary too.
