Another entry for 's Obscuri-Jam .  Once again, because of my desire to be iconoclastic, I'm going somewhat against the grain by selecting another character from a book instead of what most people seem to do, which is pick someone from a cartoon or video game to draw.  However, this time I'm venturing a bit closer to a visual medium by drawing a character from a book that was later adapted for television.

Bubba is a character from the Southern Vampire Mysteries/ Sookie Stackhouse novels by literary genius Charlaine Harris, upon which the TV series True Blood is based, though it is my understanding he does not appear in the show.  I've seen a couple explanations for his absence, but I think the simplest explanation is that the powers-that-be thought he would be too difficult to take seriously.

If Bubba resembles a certain King of Rock and Roll, that is not coincidental.  Though everyone goes out of their way to avoid saying it directly, Bubba is the vampire Elvis.  Apparently, when the King croaked, an overzealous vampire morgue attendendant couldn't leave well enough alone and "brought him over," but perhaps due to the chemicals in his system, he came back a little... wrong.  As vampire Bill so tactfully put it, "He's smart as a tree trunk."  Bubba doesn't like being reminded of his past, which is why nobody calls him by his real name.

So, if you ever wondered what Elvis Presley would be like if he were still around today... and if he were a vampire... and brain damaged... then wonder no more!

Side note:  I nearly screwed up this pic.  I thought I remembered reading that Bubba was wearing a Grateful Dead T-shirt when Sookie first meets him, so I practiced sketching the damn Grateful Dead logo a couple times, and I had this drawing all colored in, and then just as I was ready to submit it, I went back and checked the book to be sure, which is what I should have done in the first place, and it turns out I was evidently thinking of a different section of the book where Bill is the one wearing the Grateful Dead shirt.
