When Stephano was just an infant, no older than a year old, his family was attacked by a gang of Pokemon who were after his mother. He saw his father get stabbed, and watched as his brother ran to be with their mother, only to be captured as he flayed open stomach fell overtop him, entrapping him inside her body. Stephano managed to escape from being caught, running and hiding in a pile of trash. He watched as his brother was taken away in a cage along with the hide of his mother.

Stephano was on his own after that, wandering the streets in pure terror as he fought to try and survive. He got a lot of attention because of his albino hide, granting him many awkward stares. As a result, he took to hiding in the alley ways and behind stands and under tarps. He was becoming more and more horrified by the minute. Stephano lived like this for years, doing everything he could to both survive as well as to avoid literally everyone. There came a point though, three years into his struggle, that he found himself in a port with little to no easily taken meals. After a week or so of scrounging, the little gatr was on the verge of death; exhausted and weak from the lack of food. When he was at the docks, he saw opportunity gracing his presence. A Samurott was standing before him, back turned and hand lowered. Grasped in that lowered hand was an apple. Stephano took the risk and ran forward, attempting to swipe the bit of food from his "victim".

The Samurott turned and saw Steph, his grip too strong for the infant to pry the food away from. When Steph noticed he'd been seen, he abandoned his mission and ran off to hide. He took to some nearby fallen crates, curling up inside one as he quivered in fear. The Samurott had followed and found him, lowering down to get a better glimpse. When he went to reach inside to grab hold of the scrawny Totokans (Totodile/Ekans), Steph's snake tail shot out and bit him.

He instead picked the entire crate up, turning it so the open end faced the sky. He smiled at Steph, watching the infant cower in that open box. He introduced himself as Barbossa and in a very soft voice, told Steph he'd no longer be alone in the world.

It was at that moment that the pirate captain adopted the albino hybrid into his life. Stephano lived with Barbossa from then on, each day spent by the man's side and no where else.

At the age of eight, Stephano had become accustomed to staying very close to Barbossa while off his ship. He wasn't as nervous at this time about being on land, but that was soon to change.

A Feraligatr priest by the name of Nathaniel Ratcliff rode up on a six-legged hybrid steed (Zebstrika/Rapidash) by the name of Zeus. Upon seeing the white skinned boy standing next to the captain, he began to preach as to the injustice that was Steph's entire existence. The fact that he was not just of an incompatable breeding but also had an albino hide, something that could be seen as a sign of purity, outraged the reptile. He demanded that Barbossa turn the boy over to the Church so that he could repent for the travesty that he sported. "He is a living mockery of gods purity," were the claims spouted by the priest.

Barbossa refused to do so, pulling Stephano closer to him in turn. He was taken by surprise when a smokescreen filled the area; created by and unknown source. The black haze blinded the captain and the priest, the sounds of buzzing the only alert to another presence drawing itself closer to them. Before either of the two men knew what had come, the small Totokans that had clung so closely to Barbossa was snatched up.

He was taken to an old abandoned building where inside he was tied to an old rack. The man that had taken him turned out to be a Scyther that for some time, had been eyeballing the little whelp. The Scyther told Stephano that he was going to make a fortune off of him, but that he would be worth much more were he fully evolved. The man pulled out a few crates full of strange food (rare candies), their smell sickening to Steph's nose. Along with the crates came a Typhlosion. He'd been hired by the Scyther to perform this part of the procedure due to the bug not having and fingers to speak of, only blades. He was also the cause of the earlier smokescreen.

Stephano pleaded to be released, crying out for Barbossa as he threw his head left and right. His captors gave him no sympathy however. The Typhlosion took the crate and set it on a table next to the rack. He then went and grabbed the little boys jaw, forcing it open and holding it like that so he could stuff the candies in. Stephano was force-fed the objects, each ones taste more sickening then the last. His body began to grow in strength causing the little gatr tremendous amounts of pain. He evolved after a while, reaching his first stage evolution before both his mind and body were ready. He kept being force-fed, almost reaching his next evolution point before finally being saved by Barbossa.

Stephano was traumatized by the event, both his body and mind suffering great blows that left the little boy unable to even leave Barbossa's ship for the next nine months. Once he was finally able to step off, he took to covering his entire form under a thick deep blue cover.

To this very day Stephano takes to that same ritual. He can't even stand by the railing without having to cover himself. The gatr, though now fully evolved and near twice Barbossa's height, still clings to the captain like mad while on land. His relationship with Barbossa has become very strong; being to the point where he considers the Samurott captain more like a father than a captain. He doesn't know if Barbossa considers him as a son, but he does know that he can trust the man completely.
