Description My latest printmaking project. This was done similarly to the Owlbear print, but we used the placement of the hardground to block out the parts that needed to be lighter and then dipped it in acid to etch it, covering over the next lightest part until only the blackest parts were left with the most exposure to the acid. It was tedious, but pretty cool. :3

I'm pretty happy with this one, especially the large drawing. I combined leopard features such as the feet and head with the frame of a cheetah, and then of course added the Displacer Beast's signature tentacles. I'm not very happy with how the text came out, though. It's really hard to carve it out backwards and make it legible when your handwriting already isn't great.

Panther. With tentacles. Yep XD.
I know it says leopard/cheetah, but that's what it looks like to me XD.

This looks like something one would find in a textbook/paper from Charles Darwin's time!
Creature appears to be predatory... yet to determine what it preys on. Going to follow it to see if I can find out.
That etching effect hing is really pretty cool .

There were some panther inspiration in there, too. I mostly used leopard/panther references for the head and huge paws, and cheetah for the body type.

"Going to follow to see if I can find out." Because that's a great idea! XD
But I'm glad that's what this makes you think of, because I was really going to a bestiary feel with this, my owlbears, and the comparison of the basilisks. ^^

This one also feels like something I could run into in the jungle
in a Phantom comic (not sure if you know the Phantom ^^).

I've always pictured biologists who go exploring (Darwin-esque)
and being a little crazy XD.

I don't think I've seen many etchings, I'll have to look it up so I understand the technique better (I only have a vague idea of what etching is ). I like the texture it has given on the main drawing, and I think you did a fine job with the creaqture itself, the pose is quite dynamic and the anatomy is well defined.

Very nice, but wasn't the Displacer Beast more skeletonized than this?

In most illustrations it is, but I tried to be more naturalistic in my interpretation. c:
