Good Question! The answer is ...sort of.
It's more the explanation for how that particular ability works.
Our bodies work because our mitochondria turn nutrients turns it into energy.
We have no control of how it works, but we can do amazing things because of it.
Vectors subatomic manipulation work kind of the same way.
But he's working on it!

Oh okay, I think I get it. So vector can potentially manipulate subatomic particles, but his primary ability is to empower himself with the raw energy produced by subatomic particles. Jesus that is almost as broken as just manipulating subatomic particles. What kind of effect does this have in the environment?

His normal power set has no environmental effect other than the intended.
This wiki does a good job explaining Self-Subatomic Manipulation
Vector's Unification power is the wild card, which is why he almost never uses it.
Misused it could destroy on a massive scale.

Ha! I dig the fact that his childhood obsession has influenced the shape his powers took. Thats a nice touch and I can see his crew giving him crap over that theory.

Yeah, in th Vindicator universe mostly all meta-humans are borne of Rend genetic manipulation of the anterior cingulate cortex of the brain where personality and behavior reside. Subsequently Personality and personal affinity play a large part in resulting power sets.
I just flipped the fact that my friends rag me pretty badly regarding my love of DBZ over to Vector and his crew.
Although I have the respect of my friends none of them get my love of the show no matter how hard I try to explain it.

LOL what are friends for right!
Yeah my universe is quantum based so a person's view of themselves or obsessions tend to dictate what their powers and appearacne are. So heroes and villains are usually quite easy to differentiate.

That's a much more concise explanation than mine, lol.

Thanks for doing this. To be honest I've always thought Vector was one of the coolest super heroes, but I used to think he was also one of the most OP characters I've ever run across. But after reading this, I see that you've actually given him a strong balance with his abilities. He's definitely powerful, but he's not a god. Very cool.

I wanted Vector to be the Superman of his universe in that he was the top hero,
but I wanted to fix all the things I felt were wrong with that character.
Now to me Superman has been written so OP that it is nearly impossible to care about him, a critical storytelling flaw.
I tried to create built-in physical and emotional challenges for Vector so the reader can actually have suspense.
But these are things that come through in storytelling.
Pin-up can only convey so much, storytelling is the real heart of this medium.
