Description So..
I uploaded a very large image so the 3D artsists can see the details clearly since I'm going to upload a crapton of designs and I really don't want to make model sheets for them all. So yea.

Not to scale.

Alright
I can picture the draft cog as a kind of jack of all trades automaton. "Step right up to this miracle machine, ladies and gentlemen. It can chop an' nail wood, carve soapstone, rearrange yer furniture to the current fashion, rock yer baby to sleep and do your taxes. Only fifty guineas!"

The assassin cog would move in a unsettling, jerky motion, like a cross between a marionette doll and a slinky. It would crawl thorough the vents of a building, slide down off the roof until adjacent to it's target's window, and fire a poisoned bolt with its bow-penis.

Smithing cogs would probably come in all sizes, from towering ground shakers making parts for steamships and power plants, to small bouncy  ones making cogs and flywheels for toys. I can imagine smithing cogs having the capacity to make more of themselves, so they would get out of control and the community would have a pest problem, finding their pot and pans melted down for clinker in the morning by wild cogs.

War cogs would fight like Sauron in the first scenes of lord of the rings, just sending people flying en masse. It would only be used in an open battlefield, where it would have room to maneuver. Imagine two armies both with war cogs. The cogs on both sides would just attack each other and ignore anyone else, and people would get out of the way or be sliced up into ribbons. So, in a massive battle there would be patches of empty land where two giant robots were just killing each other, oblivious to what was going on around them.

A Rogue cog would be a creation by an ambitious colony of wild smithing cogs, or some mad scientist's attempt at keeping his legacy alive. The cog would be possessed by some nihilistic existential angst, a sentient, unemotional being in a world filled by melodramatic mayflies. Such beings would live secluded lives, in lofts and attics, with only a few humans each generation to supply coal and paper. Rogue cogs would likely work as artists or writers, capable of calculating human memes and tropes to a tee, but unable to give their works any meaning beyond ones and zeros.

Guard cogs would be the minds of the communities most dedicated soldiers and heroes preserved in a jar of ectoplasm hooked into a metal body, allowing them to protect their lands and people forever. Interviews with such cogs reveal that any nuances or complexity in their personality is replaced by an overwhelming patriotism, making some view the honor as more of a curse. Rogue cogs would be fascinated by the guards, as they are cogs, but capable of the emotional illogic (as they see it) of patriotism that rouge cogs are incapable of.

I really like how you can see their functions in their designs; the assasin cog looks very agile and the war cog looks very sturdy.

I love how abstract and intricate they are. Nice sense of form and diversity. What are these "cogs," exactly? Automatons?

This are amazing, I love robots and anything like it. I have to say, my favorite has to be the rogue. The human face, and the "fingers"....just sooooo awesome. The one thing though is that for the assassin one... I don't know where it begins and where it ends!

do they float or something? you should explain how they do that. and some of those seem like they have arms and such that have no meaning but appearance inhancing. I can lonly see for of those working correctly, and that would be the smithing, the rouge, War, and the Soldier Cog. the other two seem to have not enough parts to realy stay upright, and seem a bit discombogulated. The smithing cog actualy looks like it would'nt be able to hold it's own weight. I know your all about logic and fantastic things all together, so just helping you with the logical...

Well...
... A wizard did it.

Literally, they use magic to function. And yes, many of them float.

ok, so I can see the smithing Cog to be similar to howls moving castle, and the draft Cog makes more sense, but what about the assasin? and may I ask who made the rouge Cog if they are Rouges? im guessing they are against the other cogs right? or are they built by a Rouge force who is against a kingdom or monarchy/dictatorship?

Rodrigo-Vega In reply to Silvan-Raptor [2009-08-22 00:30:24 +0000 UTC]

The main inspiration to make the assasin was "Reign: The Conqueror" where assasin in general looked like almost abstract contorsions. The idea is they would sort of crawl on walls with the legs on the back or float silently or whatever.
This particular rougue might be the result of an experiment in advanced AI that went self-awere or something.

yeas, it does seem like the assasin has three legs and that could be used to stand easily. the rouge seems reasonable too. what are these to, may I ask?
