Description But who's the hunter?
Asterix by Uderzo, for Dargaud.

Well, this cartoon will only make sense for Europeans. I don't think Asterix is well known outside of it. Oh well.
So, as promised, every 2 months I'd do an animation on request for one of my patreons and I only got one request: Asterix.
So congrats to be the only one to ask.
Luckely I could figure out an idea for a cartoon.

As for the actual Patreon cartoons I'm making, still work in progress. Alas.

Eh, I liked the Asterix and the Legionary adaptation, altough yeah, it sharing half the movie with a diffrent story hurts it a little.
Especailly since the unlikely brotherhood with the other legions is a large part of it's heart and joy. Now they drop from the movie halfway trough. Aw.
I still need to watch the Mansions of the Gods, it looks great. I really disliked the Vikings one tough, the whole Romeo and Juliette sidestory overtook the entire movie. And I really, really, REALLY hate all these "my daddy doesn't like me" storylines in movies. Too overused. Stop getting in my Peter Pan/ Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles/ Asterix movies.

It's not that the Asterix the Legionary movie adaptation was bad, I can't even blame the movie makers for not making into a full-fletched movie because a lot of stuff from this particular comic book simply doesn't translate well into a movie. The Egyptian guy who mistakes the army for some kind of holiday camp and has pictures instead of words in his speech bubbles could never work in a movie and the Goths are a similar case. We as the reader know what's going on because we actually see the pictures and can read the different fonts in the speech bubbles unlike the characters who only hear what's being said, but in a movie we are on the same level as the characters. The Asterix comics often use the fourth wall to their advantage and Asterix the Legionary does it the most which makes it brilliant as a comic book, but near impossible to make into a movie. It's also a difference I noticed with the new Asterix comics that are written by different guys, at least in the German version. There are about twenty jokes in Asterix and the Picts that are about a character misunderstanding or not hearing correctly what another character said. This is a kind of joke that would be funnier in a movie, but comes across as awkward in a comic book.

The animation on the Vikings one was really good, probably the best of the 2D animated ones, but yeah, the movie does have its problems story-wise. I personally thought that there was too much misplaced drama in this movie, especially since the original comic book was about the big tough Normans comedically missing the point of a simple saying. When Justforkix leaves, they try to play it as a big dramatic moment. When Justforkix asks what happens to people who fall into the "Liar Revealed" trope, they make it look like his life is going to be in danger if they find out that he can't fly and in the next scene he's having a big party with all the Vikings and doesn't want to leave which leads to yet another overdramatic scene about Obelix being broken because of the things Justforkix said. Then there's this big dumb villain character who wants to straight up murder Justforkix and don't forget the giant asspull at the end where he actually does fly. If they wanted to do a love story with Asterix and Obelix in it, why didn't they adapt The Great Divide? Because, you know, it actually is a Romeo and Juliet kind of story. You'd think they'd learn from the mistakes of the previous Asterix movies, but nope. The life action Asterix at the Olympic Games does the exact same thing except that none of the characters involved were in the original comic book and GΓ©rardix and Clovisix barely even have a point in the movie.

I saw Mansions of the Gods on the big screen and yes, it is really good. The 3D animation is on spot with the comic books, the writing is funny and clever and the additions and changes they made to the story really work. The only downside is that after watching it, I now feel like they dealt with the Romans way too quickly in the original comic. Once they get over their tolerance and start doing something, it's a breeze. I don't want to spoil anything, so let's just say that it isn't that easy in the movie. But nothing ever beats the way Obelix is drawn in the comic when he's acting like a savage. That's probably the funniest scene in the entire franchise.

Well that was unexepcted! :3
as a French guy who grew up with Asterix, that make me quite laugh!! :3
you capture well the style and give an quite unexpected ending! XD

some may bitch by saying " But Obelix did bit a Legionnaire who used the magic potion in Asterix and the Brits! " but if you think about it, the Legionnaire was drunk so.... maybe Obelix may had an harder time with him if he was sober.....

Beside, I'm sure NO ONE before you did a parody where the boars get their revenge! XD

Quite an acheviement if you ask me! Great job!

could be awesome to see more Asterix in your animation in the future! :3

The potion might also have faded for that soldier, not to mention an angry boar desperate for survival already has power and strenght on it's own, that a drunk idiot wouldn't have.
So excuses a plenty.

Glad you liked it then!

Quite a collection.
Altough since a new art team has taken over from uderzo, I'm afraid it won't be the Entire collecton for long.

bobcat74.free.fr/obd/L'Odyss%E…
Mostly because I had an old pc game where he had a cool theme song.
