Description
From Cool ape. Lost the most recent file so I had to redo some stuff. Immediatly fixed up a few sketches that didn't work well and added a bonus joke. Thanks to ultra for the suggestions.Part 2:
A knuckles production: Nothing to do with SATam but little jab at Sonic triple trouble. Hey, it's still 90's Sonic. Can't believe I didn't make this observation back when I did the full Triple trouble parody.
Sonic's solution to problems: I know what you're saying. Roger, the sketch was really boring and predictable. Well yeah, that's the point. That's exactly how it feels to watch these "action scenes" in Season 1. This is a typical cartoon issue, most episodes only have room for one real action scene, at the climax. Every other problem the heroes encounter is just a pointless encounter to set up a commercial cliffhanger.
As a result, they spent a full 1 minute showing us how desperate and scary the situation is , and after the commercial is over, we see the hero deal with the problem in 10 seconds.
You might not notice it when you watch only one episode a week, with the commercials included, but watch several episodes in one sitting without interuptions, and you notice how often we get a "Oh no! A MONSTER!!" sequence, ending with Sonic just shrugging and running off. Sure, running is Sonic's thing, and the strategy always works, so I can't blame him.
But why Robotnik always designs deathtraps that can only be beaten by running really fast really baffles me. I think there's 2 episodes where Robotnik specifically designed a trap that only works when Sonic runs, including a rocketlauncher that always hits Sonic as soon as he runs. Of course he never used it after it worked perfectly for one episode. And now, right up at the big final confrontation in the final episode, Robontik always has traps that Sonic can defeat by running fast. Urghh..
The big epic showdown of Robotnik I've been looking forward since episode 1, and it ends up being a stupid tube where Sonic just runs away from.
Rotor is awesome: He is.
The other freedom fighters: Hey, remember when I said season 1 had great use of red shirts? Well, Season 2 doesn't.
I really HATE the final episode of SAT am. And I'm not referring to the cliffhanger. The whole episode sucks. After building the other freedom fighters like Arie and the wolves up for several episodes, they're immediatly arrested, powerhouse characters like Bunny barely have a cameo, Robotnik's final showdown is laughable, the climax with the powerstone is confusing, not to mention painfull deus ex machina ish. Ghah. But hey, at least there's plenty of WACKY and HILARIOUS Antoine antics. Cause we didn't get enough of that.
Oh no, Swatbots!: Our friends the swatbots again. This one confused me as hell when I was 10 years old. Which was back in season 1, let alone how painfull this trope is in season 2.
One moment we see Sonic destroy 500 swatbots with one lame pun, the next moment they're all " OMG SWATBOTS WE MUST RUN!!!!"
Why? I just saw Sonic destroy 50 swatbots by just holding up a mirror. Do it again! In season 2, Sonic can turn into a giant tornado to take out entire armies of the damn things. And I'm still supposed to be on the edge of my seat if a single Swatbot politely asks Sonic to surrender himself for 10 minutes straight?

In general, it's a pretty good series.
I just love pickign stuff apart.
Because no matter how good a show is, there's always these little moments or decisions that bother you.

I don't rant, I spoof.
Ranting would just be me yelling how much this show sucks, with maybe 2 or 3 arguments. Usually shallow surface arguments.
This is more like a satire thing, observing and deconstructing the flaws and their origins.Trying to figure out where they come from or why they happened, and then bringing it to people's attention from a humorous angle.
And satire/parody never works when you do it to things you purely hate.
Hate comes from a lack of understanding, and if I don't understand the medium, then I was never the intended audience anyway, so I wouldn't have bussiness ranting about it.
Things I hate for example would be watching sports. I don't get the point of watching other teams play a game at all. And that's why I should never do a parody of sports, because I can't make good observations or points about it, my parody would just be "Sports...Look at it..It's stupid"
No substance, no observations, no satire. Just empty ignarance and hatred.
People who agree with me might nod, people who disagree with me would be offended and hurt, and people with no opinion will be bored. But nobody would be laughing or learning anything new. So I fail. A good parody should satisfy all three groups.
For a good parody, you must neither hate or love it. You need to understand the purpose of a media, the things it tried to achieve, and understand the appeal. Disapointment is mostly the key emotion.
To become disapointed, you must have had expectations.
If you had expectations, you must have had interest and understanding of the medium. And indeed, you must be enjoying at least some of it.
(And pure love isn't good either, since love makes you blind. If you don't see any flaws or little things that inspire for jokes, there's no material for a parody. Which is why my real favorite movies or games rarely appear in my work.)
Occasionally there's a specific bit that I hate. As I said, I hate the final episode of SATam. Altough it's more of a bitter disapointment in what could have been I suppose.
But most of the points I made bother me BECAUSE this show is so good. Almost ever flaw I mentioned also happens in almost every other cartoon show, but there I accept it because these cartoonshows don't make much of an impact anyway.
Sonic SATam is great, so these typical flaws are much more notable and bothersome.
I love SATam and enjoyed watching the episodes. But I also love picking them apart. It's kind of a study, while most people who are disapointed might point to obvious things on the surface, I prefer digging deeper and study exactually what caused the disapointment, why it caused the disapointment, and what it was trying to do, etcetera.
It's where my humor orginates from.

Eh, I didn't mention other social media? But true, most parodies these days have a severe lack of satire and deconstruction.

Rotor IS awesome. I don't think it can be established any clearer.
Also, it is clear why Knuckles made no appearances in this. He was so confused he left the studio upon the first episode in a daze and was never seen again for it.

Heh, blimey... Sonic and his juice...
Sally married a dragon?
Heh, heh... Rotor's got more to him than meets the eye!
Hmm, and those other freedom fighters really didn't do much... didn't even try and evade the SWATbots when told to freeze!
Ahhh, the SWATbot - talk about Stormtrooper Effect...
Was that Tim Curry playing King Acorn? Blimey, that guy gets around!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rogerregorroger In reply to DCLeadboot [2011-03-16 08:17:18 +0000 UTC]
Sally never married the dragon, was just making a literal interpretation of the "It's someone you don't wanna marry.- But THAT is our only way out!" dialogue.
Stormtrooper effect? Stormtroopers at least fire, instead of just shouting "surrender!" over and over.
Yeah, Tim Curry played King Acorn, who appears in at least 4 episodes. But yeah, I'm suprised in how often you'll find Tim Curry in smaller projects.

DCLeadboot In reply to Rogerregorroger [2011-03-16 10:19:32 +0000 UTC]
I know, I was just playing along with the scene!
Hmm, that's a point... heck, even the soldiers in Commando are more like Stormtroopers than SWATbots - they did shoot at Arnold (and of course missed!)
Star-studded cast, indeed... Tim Curry even appears in one of the Agatha Christie Poirot's with David Suchet, not to mention the voice of Slagar the fox in the Redwall-Mattimeo TV series... and so many others! I first encountered him by name in Muppet Treasure Island, of course!
Has rather a distinctive evil chuckle, too!

Sally X random monster ... aww, random pairings, hilarity ensues. ^^
...heh, I only just noticed that when Sonic "juiced off" he actually forgot to take Antoine with him.

Rogerregorroger In reply to UltraTheHedgetoaster [2011-03-16 08:19:20 +0000 UTC]
Sonic doeso ccasionally put Antoine in dangerous situations to tease him, so it isn't that out of character for him to "forget"antoine with the monster, untill Antoine "Hilariously" cries out for Sonic.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions indeed!
