He is indeed from Sonic X and people hate him because
A) He's a new character within the Sonic canon, which is always a bit dangerous but not problematic on it's own. But then
B) he has the most screentime of all characters. Is more the main character then Sonic and pretty much takes over both Amy and Tails' role as secundary characters. Worse
C) his behaviour clashes with the other characters. Everyone is a go lucky adventure character, but Chris is serious, realistic and holds everyone back, frequently putting the brakes on otherwise fun adventures. So in summary
D) Chris represents the TV studio's bad management choices of adding generic kids into "crazy" tv shows because the suits don't think Kids can relate to crazy characters like Sonic. They also use him to censor the show and make it more kid (or rather, parent) friendly.
That's why I hate him.

Same here. Then again, as a kid, I never could understand why they bothered shoe-horning human characters into whacky animal themed shows anyway. (Like the original MLP)
I agree with you totally, which was why I chose to write a Sonic X fanfic and completely excise Chris from it. XD

Well, I understand Chris as a character, I suppose SOnic NEEDS a down to earht kid to "represent" humanity for SOnic, otherwise he'll only be interacting with generals and presidents.
So I don't mind him persΓ©.
But yeah, they used him to much and with the wrong reasons.
