Description
We've all been labeled, both by others and by ourselves. But often those labels come with assumptions, such as being like someone else who has that label, a stereotype about people with that label, or a belief that you somehow agree with or are responsible for the actions of everyone who shares that label. So, maybe we add more labels on top of our labels, but find those labels still don't fit and so add even more. Then those around us add even more. Soon we're covered in labels, but we still feel undefined or misunderstood and so maybe we pick new ones.
But the truth is that no amount of labels can ever define you because labels are not unique and you are.
Labels are just words to communicate ideas. They help us sum up explainations and are a useful part of language, but they don't define you or others, so see beyond what labels you hear to who you and others truly are inside.
Don't make an assumption without first getting to know someone just because of a label. You aren't defined by any number of labels. You are unique and so is everyone else. Explore that and discover the ever changing, ever expanding individual human you are. Because, even human doesn't define you. That's not to say you aren't human or mostly shy or kind of nerdy or any label. It just means you're so much more and that's an amazing thing.

When people make assumptions, I often find to be very annoying.

Even I make assumptions, too. BUT STILL!! It's annoying nonetheless.

Yeah, that's true. We all make assumptions sometimes.
I guess it's just a matter of being aware when we do and remembering how annoying assumptions are so we can step back and imagine how it feels to others when we do it and that'll help us stop.

They just give an easy word to sum it up how you are. Instead of saying I like to read books and stay away from people for the most part someone can say they are introverted. Labels weren't meant to be given to you, but rather for you to use to sum out how you are.Β

I agree. I believe in using labels as part of communication rather than defining someone and then dismissing them as just like everyone else with that label. Also, thanks for making me remember I was going to get back to this later and expand on the description.
