I remember when "I Speak Because I Can" came out...reminds me of someone I don't know now.
I have always been a fan of singer/songwriters!
But Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos and others...make up quite a large part of the "Soundtrack to my Life" as they say.

Very nice work. A great way of displaying loneliness. I've actually been in a cinema by myself. It's cool because you have this big TV in front of you all to your own but it's kind of lonely and creepy because there's supposed to be lots of people there.

What is she thinking to?!! Alive depiction of solitude and resignation... The look is distant, lost in an inner image.. Your inspiration is really bare and sober, Dirk! not joyful! Could you plan a little travel to South Provence,in order to stock up with sunny and colorful landscapes?
I admire the way you paint the RED, a color I'm unable to use positively!

Dirk, I always appreciate your work, for it's so original! How can I explain that your watercolors ( even dark and pitiless!) bring me a feeling of satisfaction and ...?.fullness?- ( I haven't the right word, as usual), whereas the acryllic works let me confused,
sometimes sad, for i think that i can't understand what you want to mean, as for "only a movie". There are two personnalities in you/artist.
I hope that the manof the reality is easier to understand and reach? But it's true that complex and multiple personnalities are more attractive than simple ones... Excuse this speech, please!

I like to choose titles with double meanings or which are a bit enigmatic..
Perhaps that's an (unconscious) influence of some famous (Belgian) surrealists like margritte or Delvaux or actual maters like Borremans..
Also, I like to keep different interpretations open.. Perhaps as a kind of playing with the viewer..
'Only a movie' could for instance mean:
She's completely alone, she has nothing of no one else; she only has the movie to go to, to accompany her.
But could also be understood as: wat is shown here, is only a movie, it's not real..
But in fact, paintings and their titles shouldn't be explained by the artist, don't you think so...
Personally, I have no problem with those 2 sides, I even don't feel them als 2 different sides...
And bu the way, hope my acrylics are getting better and better, so one day you can say you like them as much als the watercolors..
