Description
The drider fled up the cave wall, it’s legs moving frantically up the web caked rocks. The flames from the pyre continued to grow at an alarming rate. The tinder that had once been it's sleeping area buring with a inpossible swiftness. Vier’Taz looked up at the creature piteously. This strange twisted thing had once been a drow, like him, and now he watched as his companions burned the beast in it’s own home. The drider had not attacked them. After all it had been asleep when they had come upon it. The thing was younger than any drider he’d ever seen before. Yet now it would die here, tortured by flames and trapped in the very cave it had hoped to find safety in. It had not expected to ever fight a Pyremancer in the ebon depths. Nor had it ever imagined that it would be trapped here in it's safely tucked away cave high up towards the very surface the drow hated so much.~~~~~~~~
Ah the finished version? I may rework it.

THe apt was hot, and I spilled my water colors on the couch, eep. good thing it's kinda...my couch maybe... looks at Gen and Ne-chan.
anyway, guache, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, crayon, pencil, and a bit of help in shading and such with good old fashioned PS6.
okay, lots...
anyway, I hope you all like it...I may do several versions... maybe.. gah, too hot and late, to bed with me.
(curls up with a random R.A.Salvatore book...hummm Lagacy of the drow is good and thick.)

Wow! Awasome!
You did a lot of work and used A LOT of different mediums on this piece.
How long did it take you, from start to finish?
How was it for you when having to use all these different materials together?

Poor thing, he looks so innocent and fragile and sad. I love how thick his hair is, and you did a really great job of the lighting. C:

Damn I feel sorry for the poor dear Excellent picture though, just don't point out the drow who did this or there will be some very subtle population control.

The left arm seems a little off, but other than that I can't find anything to criticize.
The reflection of the fire on the rocks is a nice effect and I love the expression on the drider's face. To me, it seems a little childlike as it is about to die, lost and defeated. You did a great job paying attention to detail.
Honestly, this is an amazing piece of artwork and I would recommend turning it into a print. I know that I would enjoy purchasing one, and I don't doubt that others would like to do so as well.

It's so beautiful, and the story with it makes it so sad. I always had a sort of soft spot for Driders, and I always loved reading things that made them less...er...kill-happy-psychos. XD I dunno if you know what I mean but, meh. Poor guys.
This really is beautiful though - the colors, the design, the pose, everything. <3

*lol* I'm arachnophobic. But I have th picture of the drider here on dA actually - I think it got deleted from Elfwood for having sketchbook holes Stupid. Anyway... yeah, here it is [link] . He's not a drider as he's described in those books (I know nothing about them, but ~Nephtis does and she explained it to me at the time) but rather a way of me giving myself arachnophobia shock treatment

Yours is cute. I might almost want to... but driders have vile tempers, don't they? As much as ~Nephtis told me...

RollerBoyjeremy In reply to JacquesMoineau [2005-08-26 03:11:03 +0000 UTC]
yes, very vile tempers...well if you had been sentenced to a tortured existence as a sexless half spider with no magic, and no home, and every step you took was blinding agony...yeah, you'd be pissed always too...
especially when your family and fellow drow later use you as cannon fodder. meh~
I have sympathy for the poor dears.

Because their bodies were made as punishment from their merciless spider queen/goddess. They are constructed out of their own flesh in an unnatural and demonic way. so becomming a drider is facing a life of torment, fear, and dispair.

Hooo cool! So... if she's the one who made all the others, how did SHE come to be?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RollerBoyjeremy In reply to JacquesMoineau [2005-08-27 12:04:19 +0000 UTC]
humm, she was a demon, the drow fled to the underdark and were being devistated by the races native there. she promised them protection if they worshipped her.
THey did, and through her survived the underdark. Now they live in families, each trying to gain MORE of Loths favor then the next. The ruling houses are set up to show power, order, and those who have Loths favor. To gain Loths favor, you sacrifice lives to her.
She was ONCE a demoness, but such long devotion, and devouring so many souls has made her literally a goddess.

Wow...sounds cool - if much, much worse than Shelob. At least, Shelob never DOES anything... I can't imagine sacrificing anything to a giant half-spider megalomaniac I'd run a mile!
