Description
I've inherited my father's old cameras. All of these are ones he or some other relative once used.Konica Auto S Camera
35mm film
Produced 1963-65 by Konishiroku Co. of Japan. The following Auto S2 and Auto S3 models appear to have been more popular.
Depending on the source, it either cost $90 or $129 in 1963 which would be about $900 to $1,300 in today's dollars.
Apparently this is a milestone camera of sorts. According to Konica, the Auto S was the ‘world’s first automatic exposure (AE) 35mm camera with CdS exposure’ (whatever that means).
It uses one of those little button batteries for the metering system and I assume that also triggers the flash. I found a corroded battery in this one. There are some reviews that criticize the camera's plastic battery cover, but in this case it might have helped prevent more damage.
This camera has a Honeywell Tilt-A-Mite flashgun fitted to the camera's accessory shoe. These have a fan-fold reflector permitting compact storage. I don't know how old this one is, but Honeywell sold these beginning in the late 1950s. The bulb shown here is a single use Sylvania Blue Dot M3 Blue Flashbulb. I'm not sure, but I think the blue bulbs have a more daylight spectrum than the standard clear bulbs.
