Description
September 6, 2022.Somewhere outside of San Jose, Illinois. I’m not sure that I can find my way to that town without asking for directions.
So we are taking the scenic route from Chicago and my wife spots this house down the road. She said, "If that was abandoned it could be one of your houses”. From a distance everything looked fine, a well ordered farm house in the middle of a working farm. Then as I passed it, I saw the holes in the roof.
I think the “Centennial Farm” marker out front just makes this sad. A family farm for over 100 years and, what looks to be a solid decent home, is being left to rot. Those holes in the roof have probably already caused major problems on the inside.
I’m not sure, but I’m thinking, that the farm was acquired (I doubt it was a homestead) by the Leinweber family in 1909. And I think that it is now part of the larger Garlisch Farm. Perhaps the Leinweber family is related to the Garlisch family.
