Description
Texico Illinois, September 7th 2023.The general store and the Post Office, both of which are permanently closed.
About a half mile to the east is the now permanently closed Texico State Bank. They got in trouble with the Federal Reserve in 2021 and their accounts were taken over by Legence Bank of Mount Vernon.
The railroad through the town was originally the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad (CEI), but now is the Union Pacific. There is no longer a siding along the tracks.
Texico is unincorporated, so the area considered to be Texico is the area once served by the Texico Post office. But the nucleus of the town is by the railroad crossing. This consists of the permanently closed train depot, the permanently closed grain elevator, a permanently closed general store, and a permanently closed post office.
