Description Missouri State Penitentiary, Jefferson City Missouri. May 4th 2016.

They strongly advised that no one close the cell doors as they were not sure they could open them again.

This is the inside of A-Hall.

From the pages of Wikipedia, "In 1868, A-Hall, also known as Housing Unit A and Housing Unit 4, was finished. The building was constructed of stone quarried on site and built mainly by inmates. Warden Horace Swift was the architect of the structure. It is still standing today, and housed inmates until the day the prison was closed".

The Missouri State Penitentiary operated from 1836-2004 and was the oldest operating penal facility west of the Mississippi River. It was replaced by the Jefferson City Correctional Center.
