The sky was still overcast but at least it wasn't raining. We backtracked to Clarmore, but didn't spot any Route 66 relics except for this motel. After that I think we just got on the turnpike and drove back to Vinita Oklahoma and from there took the local roads north to Kansas.

I don't have much information about this place, but here is a quote from an August 2007 article from USA TODAY: "Elm's Motel in Claremore, 30 miles west of Chelsea, is a series of modest yellow and brown cottages, with ivy creeping along the sides. Garages used to be attached to each cottage, but proprietors figured they could squeeze another room in and they were yanked.

"There's not that many old places left in Claremore," laments owner Tommy Copp, 68, who bought the place about 30 years ago. "They're pretty much gone by the wayside. That's called progress.""
