Description Anheuser-Busch’s brewery, St Louis Missouri, May 7th, 2022.

In 1916, with Prohibition on the horizon, Anheuser-Busch launched a new product called Bevo beer.  This was a "near-beer", it tasted like beer, but had less than one half of a percent of alcohol.  This was to become the most popular "near-beer" in the country.  In 1917 work began on building an $8,000,000.00 facility, just for the brewing of Bevo.

The mascot of Bevo was Reynard the Fox, who was a sly and witty character in a number of Dutch, English, French and German fables that originated in the 11th century.

The statues are 10 feet tall and during construction of the building massive blocks of granite were installed at all four corners of the building.  It was only after the building was constructed that the sculptures were carved by a well-known sculptor Christopher Seale.  Since the granite blocks were already part of the building the sculptor had little room for error.

Despite the fact that Prohibition was still in effect, demand dropped to just around 100,000 cases in 1929 and production was halted.
