On high levels at Arcwind Point two Deathlords will appear near the 'end' of the location and they have an annoying tendency to blast you off the mountain with Unrelenting Force. Heck one time I ended up landing in front of the abandoned alchemist shack at the foot of the mountain. Needless to say I died. xD

I assure you, this one was perfectly aware of me - it just couldn't reach me and therein lies the key

I remember trying to do this with an Ancient Dragon needless to say it ended badly for me...

Best to leave the head on fighting to the people who fight with giant axes and stuff

I like that method! The College of Winterhold is perfect for it as my research showed. XD

RoochArffer In reply to Talimee [2012-01-10 18:26:21 +0000 UTC]

I've never actually come upon a dragon there. Might also be good to have a bunch of people who can throw fireballs nearby

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Talimee In reply to RoochArffer [2012-01-11 12:23:10 +0000 UTC]

Happens to me every other time I go up there. Sadly, the wizards and wizardesses up there won't help most times. :/

RoochArffer In reply to Talimee [2012-01-12 01:09:00 +0000 UTC]

I always seem to come across dragons in this one spot off the roads near Markarth which I for some reason end up traveling to all the time... I want to say Reachwater cave...
anyways, those wizards seem to have a limited capacity for self preservation then

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Talimee In reply to RoochArffer [2012-01-12 22:33:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, Reachwater Cave is a favourite spot for the flying lizards and I bet they're laughing themselves silly when watching me trying to run up the mountains there to get at them. Friends of mine have an arrest warrant on their heads in Rorikstead and Dawnstar because every time they travel there a new dragon comes.

RoochArffer In reply to Talimee [2012-01-13 00:36:56 +0000 UTC]

yeah they always seem to get distracted by something else while I'm there and I've gotta run up that dang hill to reach them. how inconsiderate.

At this point, my preferred method is...

Fight in open field.
Wear nothing but chef's hat.
Dualwield mining picks enchanted for +smithing.
Lots and lots of sprinting to avoid breath.

HikariOkami In reply to ??? [2012-01-08 19:50:16 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this is... EXACTLY what happened to me.
Wild ICE DRAGON appeared!
DOVAHKIIN was eaten!
you have no more life left! Reloading last save!
...
Wild ICE DRAGON appeared!
DOVAHKIIN used Hide Behind Pillars And Spam Healing/Fireballs!

Let me guess, this happened to you at the college of Winterhold? it's the only place I can think of with lots of convenient pillars.

RoochArffer In reply to HikariOkami [2012-01-08 20:32:35 +0000 UTC]

hahaha, yeah

actually, I happened to be in front of a Nordic Ruin - there are some pillars by the door - also an overhang... it's not as good as a tower but it'll do in a pinch

Hyled In reply to ??? [2012-01-08 08:25:17 +0000 UTC]

True survival method. My tactics are usually very reliant to the locations. If the dragon attacks in wilderness, it's pretty much this (or: Send Shadowmere in, hide behind rocks.) but in a city it's: Let the townsfolk wound it enough, run in to give the last blow at the last minute. Insta-win.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RoochArffer In reply to Hyled [2012-01-08 18:46:07 +0000 UTC]

that's very true - towers are extremely useful in such cases... dragons can walk/fly around pillars and rocks but they are a tad too large to fit inside towers comfortably

it's best if guards are nearby though

I ran in swinging swords after the guards had nearly shot it to death and was rewarded with a finishing move.

RoochArffer In reply to SharaSellarine [2012-01-08 02:00:28 +0000 UTC]

oooh lucky - I still haven't gotten one of those as I usually kill it from afar (whether with fireballs or arrows) after my first attempt at killing a dragon ended with it using a finishing move on me I decided not to get close to them anymore

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SharaSellarine In reply to RoochArffer [2012-01-08 02:03:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I don't get them very often cause I usually shoot them to death... but every so often I have to feed my craving for awesome by killing it with swords for the finishing move. (It works 95% of tne time)

RoochArffer In reply to SharaSellarine [2012-01-08 02:06:09 +0000 UTC]

I am going to have to do this the next time I run into a dragon... a weaker dragon anwyays

I just stood at the top of the tower and let the guards di the work, and last minute ran down and hit it.

It worked

i have more issues with keeping lydia alive than my horse. it's 2 snowy sabre cats lydia! run! RUUUUN! but no, she almost dies and i have to drag her out of it. O_o

i think she causes more problems than she's worth.

hehe, I just don't travel with her
or anyone usually... Aela from the Companions for a while cuz she sorta stayed out of my way and she'd carry things for me but she sprung a couple too many traps on me while we were dungeon crawling

still a bit of a squeak though haha

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2012-01-08 07:08:22 +0000 UTC]

Now you just need to kill one by standing on top of a rock and your cowardly ways shall be near completion. Only, you're drawing these from past events, so the future may be also what the past was if the past will be what the future has been.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2012-01-08 07:52:05 +0000 UTC]

I feel like if I stood on top of a rock I would be a prime target for a dragon (assuming it wasn't grounded... in which case I think I have done that.. course it could still shout at me)

and I did not understand the rest of what you said.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2012-01-08 18:12:02 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, for being intelligent beings they sure aren't very bright sometimes. I know it to be an excellent method when relating with Minotaurs in years gone by.
Get down from there, you stupid cat, before I call the fire department again! Meroow. Don't you meow me, missy! Get down from atop that tree branch or no more sitting on the sofa watching MASH with me! Merrrrrrr.
(Assuming dark elves are also cats and dragons are crazy cat ladies. I think the other way around it could be a pretty entertaining mod. In their spiky tongue she's Dorothy, Cat Lady! Mustard, no! And this is a really long parentheses section and I don't actually know a cat lady named Dorothy.)

I was basically just asking if you'd already done that. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RoochArffer In reply to SporeRedland [2012-01-08 18:50:46 +0000 UTC]

but minotaurs can't fly or breathe fire as far as I know... it seems like that would work much better with them than with dragons

but anyways, no, I've mostly hidden behind things or in towers... my strategy generally involves keeping things between myself and the dragon - whether it's a person or a rock

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SporeRedland In reply to RoochArffer [2012-01-08 22:42:39 +0000 UTC]

Red Bull gives you wings. I'm assuming the sugar content allows you to breathe fire with the destruction of your esophagus.

Rocks tend to hold less of a grudge for their role, I think.
