Description
This is a practice piece. I'm trying to teach myself how to paint digitally from scratch. Ugh, it's so frustrating. I constantly have this urge to stick my hands into the monitor and move stuff around. I'm really not happy with the product, but I did learn a lot while creating it. Figured I'd post this in hopes it will make me work harder.I'm so amazed and inspired by the beautiful paintings people have been able to create using their tablets!
About the subject matter: I decided to paint a scene inspired by one of my favorite cartoons, The Last Unicorn. I always thought Prince Lir had a shitty deal in the end and I didn't think he and Amalthea parted properly.

So I know this is an older pic, but I'm new to the site and just saw it for the first time. Beautiful, and I LOVE The Last Unicorn...one of my faves growing up

Agreeing with you 100% on the parting of Lir and Amalthea. I could never understand it properly. Like seriously, all the other unicorns were trapped under the ocean by a giant red bull. I think they probably understand suffering now, and most likely regret allowing themselves to be herded. She should have just stayed a woman.

The Last Unicorn is like one of my favorite movies and books of all time. I have a vhs copy of the movie that I got when I was 5, and I played it to near death (it still works 20 years later!).
If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it. The movie follows it for the most part, however, it leaves out a few things. As I remember (been a bit since I read the book), a lot of the left out parts deal with Lir's past. I could be wrong however.
Still, a good read!
I do so love this, even though it's quite rough. There simply isn't a great amount of Last Unicorn fanart out there, and it's a tragedy.
I think Lir and Amalthea was my first tragic romance that I adored to bits. <3

It's a beautiful painting!
I just rewatched The Last Unicorn a few days ago after about 8 years I think. Yeah I totally agree, I would've liked them to having a proper parting at least. Prince Lir never even got to talk to the real her!

Thanks!
I really love that film. It was serious and I enjoyed just as much as a child as I do now. It didn't have the corny jokes that animated films have today.

In fact, I feel like I enjoy it more now. I think there were things I didn't understand the first time I watched it. It really didn't need jokes to make it engaging.

I KNEW IT!
FanTABulous!
Yeah, I thought that romance deserved a chance.
Sometimes I sing "That's All I've Got To Say" to myself...

The pale purity of Lady Amalthea... The honorful and adoring body language of the prince. You captured the essence of the characters very stongly. You should be proud!
