Description
Happy Halloween Month! This is one of, maybe my only, submission for any sort of Halloween art. This is the Security Robot from Metroid Fusion, with a crack in it's front which reveals it's Aurora Unit within. The 'bot in Fusion is numbered 5, whereas this is numbered 7, as I like to think they have more than five in the entire Galactic Federation!
On a side note: where does the name 'B.O.X' actually come from? It's not mentioned in-game as that, and I haven't bothered to read the manual at all, so it might be in there.

I believe the "B.O.X." name was given on the pause screen objective when Adam orders you to destroy it after it was located in Sector 6.

Ahhhh, thanks for clearing that up!

Well Adam referred to it asΒ "AΒ Rogue Security Robot," not "THE Rogue Security Robot." So there is likely more than one of them.
The second fight it obviously attacked Samus because it was infected. Sometimes I believe that in the first battle it attacked Samus because it either was malfunctioning, orΒ something made it believe Samus was a threat (perhaps because she unlocked the doors without authorization, or because she was armed and shooting the place up).

That's a good summary yeah. Β God I haven't played Fusion in a while, it's become my winter game for some reason, so it's getting near that time.

Biocommunal Organic Xenelasia- the B.O.X. is of unfamiliar origin, it is said the sources used for the A.I. were found on the home planet of the (believed to be) extinct Chozo race, Zebes. It is initially believed that the A.I central unit wa-corrupted data-nd storing central wave beams, more commonly used under tracking missile technology and quake bombs. It should also be noted that due to the complexity of the B.O.X., it has taken over a decade for the basic design to be constructed. The project developers involve Dr. Brent Holland, Dr. Kamini Sagamori, General Fargus McColfus and Commander Shigeroo Mieamoto.

nope, I just thought I'd make a theory in the form of an essay report from commander asshole.
people say I'm quite a storyteller, and I found the brain in this picture to be a bit too...familiar to pass up.
it's possible I'll write some Metroid stories in the future. ^^

Cool! Well that was nicely improvised, it sounded genuine. I'm sure that'd make do for a proper enemy description.

BOX wasn't this boss's original Japanese name, I think. It was something more...Japanese...I think they just translated it to BOX in the English version.
Very nice piece, though! Quite captivating...it didn't really have an Aurora Unit in it, though...did it? Rather small unit if it did.
I always thought the legs were supposed to be labled like the sectors in the BSL station. I didn't realize it was actually their unit number.

Thanks!
Well, I'm not too sure about the ins and outs in terms of detail, It would make sense if the numbers on the legs corresponded to the Sector number. I don't think it had an Aurara unit, specifically, but it did have a brain in it, which floated once it was defeated in the second encounter.

You're welcome!
Oh, the brain thing that comes out after you kill its shell...
That's just the Core-X, right? Since the BOX was also infected by the X, It turned into the Core-X afterwards, like all the other bosses. It did indeed have some sort of...organic shin-a-ma-jig inside it though. I don't think Nintendo really ever told us what it was.

During the second battle against BOX, if you stay on the left side of the room, it won't be able to get you, and any missles it fires can be destroyed them with your plasma beam. Also, don't forget there's some hidden monkey bars in the cieling that you can use. Just lay a power bomb to expose them.
Anyway, nice pic of it.

It's actually only BO. The "X" was thrown in after it was infected. My guess is that BO stands for "Biomechanical Organism."

Rootay In reply to WatcherCCG [2011-03-17 21:27:34 +0000 UTC]
Ooh, interesting theory! Originally, I thought it was called BOX because it might look like a box shape when it is contracted.
But I like Biomech Organism more!

The only problem is that while other X-infected bosses have this name form: "Arachnus-X", "Ridley-X", "SA-X", the security bot is named "B.O.X." The punctuation indicates that even the X is short for something. The Metroid Wiki (which is usually very thorough when researching info) doesn't give an explanation for the name. The robot is referred to as "B.O.X." in both forms, though (both before and after infection).
"Biomechanical Organism" may be part of the name, but due to the punctuation I wouldn't call it certain that the X is referring to the parasites.
Nice art, by the way. I like how you made the shell appear half-cracked so we could see the brain inside. But I don't recall it having an eye. Makes me think of Mother Brain. Given the obvious interest that both the Federation and the Pirates have with giant brains in tanks, however, it's wouldn't be surprising.

Yeah, I think I read on the Metroid Wiki that the brain inside B.O.X resembles an Aurora Unit, but that probably doesn't mean it is. but, I liked that idea, so I added an eye so that it resembled an Aurora Unit more. But, yes, after Metroid Fusion, and especially Other M, it seems interesting now as to how the future of Samus' and the Federation's relationship will unfold. The next game, if they do it chronologically, will undoubtedly be about Samus getting back at the Federation.

Yeah, blowing up an entire space station full of biological experiments and other lifeforms with "great potential" wouldn't make the Federation all that happy with her, I'm sure. I've heard some theories that's why they haven't made a sequel yet, though: They don't know what to Earth make of the plot now that Samus might be an outlaw.

Rootay In reply to BlackMage1234 [2011-03-20 18:17:27 +0000 UTC]
I think they might perhaps leave it as a final game of the series, perhaps? There's still room between Prime 3 and Return of Samus to fit more games in, if they want to do more in the normal storyline, where Samus hasn't annoyed the Federation haha.

Thanks very much! I know, I hardly see any BOX art, it was such a cool boss, if a little short and easy. Well worth a cameo in another Metroid game like Nightmare!
