Description
I am SO happy with how this turned outDespite the fact that she won't be getting a "real" AC game
(I'm still very much disappointed.
Yes, Ubisoft, I'm looking at you.)
I apologize for not finishing her hand, as I really SUCK with drawing hands
Shao Jun looks like she's using a back-scratcher
Done with a grid (erased/PhotoShopped away) and pencils shown above.

Beautiful! Yes, I too wish Ubi-('women are just too hard to animate!')-Soft would make a full fledged game featuring a woman (no, now Aveline!)

Ack, "women are too hard to animate." I don't buy it. Not after seeing how they animated Aveline so beautifully
Anyway, thank you, my friend!

Yes, I was having the same thoughts when I saw the game art! There's just this certain elegance in her old, simpler outfit
Thank you for your kind words

Her original outfit is more in that of the Chinese culture and the new one seems more European influenced. I don't think people would dress like that in Ming China.

Wow, you really know your Chinese history! I'm kind of jealous!
Well, she was educated by Ezio in Italy for a time. Maybe that's where the European influence came from

I don't know that much. Just some things I should now for being Chinese. I probably already forgot most of my history even though I last learned it 3 months ago. I know the order of the dynasties but I forget what period Shao Jun was in.
The fact that it was a short episode made me think she was only there a few days since she was being chased by the Templars. You make it sound a bit longer. It seems pretty quick for her to devise her new stuff, like the rope darts.

I don't understand, Shao Jun is practically wearing the same attire as she had wore to Italy but this time with an extra sash and assassin's emblem, the reason for not recognising this is probably because in Embers the pattern on the clothing didn't pop out that much or were you watching in lower resolution. Although, it really doesn't matter as most of Assassin's creed fashion are exaggerated and overly embellished which makes it historically inaccurate to say the least especially running around in hoods, this also applies to China.
Futhermore, what Shao Jun is wearing is similar to a Tangzhuang/Magua which is a horse riding shirt/vest that is primarily found in military which appeared in the Ming Dynasty but with silk-knots rather than metal buttons or pearls for cheap but from what I gather, Ubisoft obviously didn't research enough, the armor, architecture, the places shown in the trailer (Sichuan and Guangxi are far from the capital to be important), Shao Jun's original attire which rather than from proper research probably came from just taking the Tangzhuang and extended the length, sword (A jian rather than a Liuyedao (Willow Leaf Sabre) or a Yanmaodao (Goose-quill sabre) really?), weird attribution of the rope dart to her, lacking spring loading wrist dart and also the game probably has martial arts slapped onto it - cuz it is Chinawh. Judging by Ubisoft interest of China (fairly low I'm sure) have probably minimal funding towards research since most people around the world couldn't care less or know Chinese history to see whether it is in any way or somewhat historically accurate.
Anyways besides my ranting, the period where Shao Jun lived was around the mid of the Ming Dynasty under the rule of Jia Jing which has been mentioned in the cryptic messages in Desmonds cell.

I guess I'm just looking more for the authentic Chinese culture of it all. Her left arm looks a bit different since it looks like she has a long sleeve shirt now. Also her throwing needles look like they're attached to a bracelet rather than whatever she had before. The flower design in Embers was less visible and this one is more prominent. Wearing an Assassin belt that big is pretty impractical. I've tried running around and doing parkour with a hood but it just doesn't stay on unless it's so small that it has to stay on my head. No way I was going to watch AC in low res.
But you would agree with me that Ubisoft wasn't trying really hard to make her attire historically accurate, right? Whatever's holding her coat together doesn't look very accurate. I see her Embers attire as silks but with a hood and it's longer on the bottom, which is okay with me because it's simple and accurate. Her jian looks like a 2h jian now since it has a longer handle.
Ubisoft doesn't seem like it's really interested in Asia. There's always rumors about Japan but practically everything so far is Western based. Hope Asia doesn't turn into another "female characters are hard to render" rage.
I don't remember my history right now so lots of this is news to me.

Yeah, she is now wearing an inner garment that has longer tight cuff sleeves than the jacket which is more appropriate (also long sleeves are more common than short) than say leaving flesh open with braces attached - chaffing. Also her sword's hilt is 'one-and-a-half length' which has always been that long if you were to refer back to Embers, what bothers me is that the sword is obviously based on the Han dynasty Jian with its circular hilt and that nobody used a double handed jian in the Ming dynasty or any later dynasty after the Han since then have been widely supplanted by the two handed dao in the Han dynasty.
"Whatever's holding her coat together doesn't look very accurate", you mean the silk-knot buttons? Which I don't see much of an issue with. On the other hand, I do think the prominent motifs on her robe has more to do with artistic choice than actually being that popping in-game. Speaking of which, the belt is also fine in size (though she could piece herself if she were to bend forward - with that pointy bit) given that Ezio Auditore's was huge beyond compare, it is a wonder how the templars didn't notice him standing infront of them with the Assassins Insignia saying "I am an Assassin!" but back to Shao Jun; it is weird that she doesn't place her sword on arming side since she already got a sash to prevent chaffing and hold it in place comfortably, not to mention it would be a dead give away to have your sword on the back (even though it is convenient) on the other hand the bracelet with needles is another concealment issue.
Regarding the interest in Asia, the original assassins creed did take place in Syria which is in Asia just not East Asia, particularly Japan which they specifically said they wouldn't touch (not that I have a problem with that) however there have been a lot of information and characters that has been established since the start of the first game for China, it would be weird for them not to expand on it unless the writers are different now that they largely omitted that detail or they just intentionally gave themselves amnesia.

I thought about making her costume and the underarm needles would be uncomfortable I would think. I don't even think a smooth piece of leather would help either.
Yeah, I have this huge insignia on my stomach and it isn't digging a hole in my ribs. I didn't need my intestines so it's fine. Mine actually broke apart in a day, for one because it was flimsy, and sitting down a lot didn't help it stay in place either.
Those writers would give themselves amnesia just so they wouldn't need to make a game on it.

Yay Shao Jun!
I'm also very disappointed she didn't get a traditional AC game... even if the visuals look pleasant and original I would have prefered an AC as we know it. Still I'm very happy that her character will have some development.
