Mandatory Training: First Saddle

The round pen again. It was the fourth time this week, you would think Red Mane knew different places. At least it introduced her to new things, like the odd brown and white thing sitting in the center of the ring. This time, Red Mane brought it to her. She sniffed it, lipped it, even was allowed to lift it with her mouth although when she tried to move it from Red Mane's grip she was reprimanded. So it was a Red Mane's object, something she could smell and look at, but not really touch. Then Red Mane rubbed it on her, like she would one of those comb thingies. It was soft, and was heavier, but didn't really weight much. Red Mane threw it over and around her back, letting it fall on her and down her sides.
Then came the brown thing. It smelt like cattle and oil. It was a little earthy, but harmless. Red Mane did the exact same thing to the brown thing as she did with the white fabric. It lay on her back for a while, just sitting there even as she shifted. Red mane layered the white fabric under the brown leather and then carefully cinched it up. They started their normal bonding session, but the leather thing was odd, and a little annoying. So she bucked, she cantered and bucked trying to throw it off, and then Red Mane diverted her attention. Bucking must not have been the right answer, because that black snake was making her turn again.

Lesson of the day- bucking doesn't work, rolling is uncomfortable with the leather thing, and Red Mane always had a surprise ready.
