Mandatory Training: Lunging

Little Thor bolted around the arena, tail raise high in the air. In the center of the sandy arena was Darren spinning with the colt while glancing nervously at the manager. He hadn't wanted to be working with the horses, he was just supposed to be just a handy man but there he was lunging the gold champagne colt for the first time.

"You're doing just fine. He's responding excellently."

Darren faltered and Thor halted to regard the man in the center. The little colt snorted and pawed the sand as if demanding what the lanky man wanted him to do and to be prompt.

"Just take a step towards his flank and click with your tongue. Watch your body language, don't be so nervous!"

"Easy for you to say. Tell me about this... place you're sending me in.. a few months?"

"A few years. Give the foal some time to grow before we send you and him to Idaho."

"Wait.. so who's this gal who's going to train me?"

"Well, train both you and Thor... Her name is Mikayla. Her aunt was an international olympic winner in dressage, she's competing in the olympics and she studied Hempfling. She'll be training Thor and you to ride in dressage. I've seen Sara training you behind the scenes.

"I.. uhh. well. crap."

"Hey, think of it as a favor. You train under Miss Turner for a few years with Thor, and when you come back you compete for us if you like and maybe you could show us some of her training techniques?"

"We'll see.
