Description  Like the setting of the sun

Featuring: Chiron Novak , Mikayla, and Therron
Optional music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkzeOm… (Ori and the Blind Forest OST- Inspiriting)

The sun was just barely beginning to set, a soft orange hue hinting in the sky when Chiron pulled Mikayla away from work. She had been putting the final gleaming touches on the tack she'd used earlier through out the day when he requested her attention. They walked up the hill-side through one of the stallion pastures, the one that contained Therron, Cinder, and Ranger. Cinder had bucked and trotted around- acting as if they were coming to play catch with him, while Ranger and Therron followed the two of them closely.  The obertaurer had become quickly attached to Therron, and in return to Mikayla, although their relationship had certainly been improved with the training and the attention when she frequented the pasture.

"So.. what did you want all the way up here?" Mikayla asked as she observed the rather romantic and serene view of the sun beginning to set across the wide pastures.

"Meditation, tranquility, and a different form of work."

"You're very cryptic today." She remarked, one hand on each horse's withers.

"I think it's time you heal the bond you have with Therron."

"Chiron. You can't bring back the dead, you can't he-"

"There is no dead here. With dusanas, you cannot bond to two of them, nor can you hold a half-bond. When it comes to sharing souls, there only being all of one, or being none. Please, sit." He motioned to the grass. "Humor me."

She sighed, but followed his instructions anyways, settling in the grass, crossing her legs. Ranger nuzzled her unruly hair before slowly walking off some distance to graze. Therron however, grunted and wiggled until he plopped down as close to Mikayla as he could without squishing her.

"It's okay, this is good. Now, place your hands on your knees, your thumb lightly pressed against your pointer, relax and close your eyes."

"Focus on yourself. Where you've been, who you are, what made you today- at the very center of you, is yourself. Like flame in the core of your being, a constant flame always fluctuating. Now, feel for the bond that ties you to Therron. It'll feel like a part of you, but different. How different, is based on you."

"It's cold."

"That's okay. That only means his own soul is so strong it feels cold so as not to burn you. Think of it as a cool breeze on a hot summer afternoon. Feel along the thread until you find flowers."

"We haven't felt flowers since-"

"I know, but that doesn't mean they're not there. There are still flowers, just buried under the snow. The winter has festered long enough, it's time bring along the spring. Dig under the snow, all that sorrow- let it float away like the soft layer of snow on the ground, and find the green sprouts of hope. Relax."

---

They sat there for what felt like hours, the breeze whipping her hair around, ticking her sun-kissed skin. In reality it was only a little more than a half hour, the glow of the sun bathing them in hues of orange and red. When Mikayla opened her eyes, the world felt different, lighter in a way. She found the oddest joy in the way the grass felt, the wind on her skin, the warmth of the sun on her back. She looked at Therron and it was the connection she'd felt when the other foal had died in her arms, rolling hills of lavender and the beat of a hummingbird's wings all over again.

"How?" She turned back to Chiron, who was watching her a soft smile curving his lips.

"It's been there all along. Your depression over the other foal and everything else that has happened to you had hidden the reality of your bond. Here." He pulled out a compact mirror from his pocket and handed it to her. "Such wounds should not fester as long as yours did, it was time to break the scar and let it heal properly."

"My eyes.. the one is completely blue now- but they're still... half."

"I'm afraid that can't be fixed. It's part of the memory of how your bonding transpired. The color might have been interfered with, but the bond is strong. He is strong. Strong enough to go to the next level, to compete in the long run."

"His legs-"

"Are healed. The scars on the surface remain, the tissue is healed and he just needs to be trained for what he was born for. I believe this upcoming year, a snowy trail ride would be the perfect challenge for you, him, probably Ranger, and one other- perhaps that rambunctious trakehner in the field."

"Are you suggesting I train for the white december?"

"I'm saying you should do it."

"I... we'll see."

"Alright then," Chiron stood up, stretching as the sun's warmth began to fade. "I suppose it's time to head in then. Dinner is probably already sitting on the table, best get there before Mark and Siobhan eat it all."
