Description A screen shot of my progress on [link] which is a remake of [link]
This is in Photoshop 7.0, which I love. But its very difficult to use, because I'm not quite as tech/digi saavy as I'd like to be.
What I do is work in lots and lots of layers to save myself time/effort if I screw up...and I always, ALWAYS make copies of layers before I start to fiddle with them just in case I do mess up and lose the work I put into the original layer. Also the yellow background is to to sooth my eyes from the glaring white, I'll put something else in there.
Her "armour" thing is supposed to look metallic but I don't quite thing I got the effect, I have to add in some colours reflected from her skintone and the background for that. Also her face is mega screwed up because I'm a crappy drawer.
The hair and boots have just been "blocked out" which means I just scribbled where they're going to go. I still have to do the cape/spear, but those will come last.
I'm having issues with the skin tone. I also dont like how hard it is to make smooth edges with a mouse, I keep getting "cellulite" where the line will differ by just one measly pixel and I can't get it smooth, raar.
Oh well, off to work I go...

You don't need a tablet for smooth lines.
What you need to get into are bezier curves (I am certain Photoshop has some tool to get them), get a little training into getting used to bezier curves, and you'll be able to do amazingly smooth lines with your mouse with no problem
(many of my later artwork is done that way, I suck at inking, so you can see what bezier-curving stuff can actually look like by checking some of my images, no I don't mean to self-advertise, just to show ya what can be done with them )

I use a tablet, when I go digital. >_o But really, you should try finding one yourself. They're expensive. Mine was $500, but worth it if you plan to be serious with your digi-coloring.
