Β I don't understand why so many people thought this was funny. Beating his wounded side would cause adrenaline spikes that would help overcome his anxiety about failure and increase his pain and rage which is what fuels the Dark Side. I thought it was both brilliant and heartbreaking. There's nothing funny about it. Pain can become fuel. That's why you hear stories of people walking through fire or crossing a wasteland with a broken leg. The pain kept them going. To me this is a sign that he was nearing breakdown and exhaustion and so he was using his pain to force his way through that. Excellent gif work and sorry for the smol lecture.

That's a deep explanation. I always thought it was just him trying to stop himself from bleeding, which probably wouldn't work very well. He's pretty messed up, confused, lost,Β tragic and probably mentally ill, very much like his grandfather was. It makes sense that he would was near exhaustion and a complete breakdown; he had lost a lot of blood and was probably in shock.

I guess people who think it's funny never hit against a wall with their fist because they've been clumsy and just had burned the other hand in the oven - it helps against the pain. No Dark Side needed to be bothered.
