Even working together to try and track the cheeon it still took Hasria and Kunguru the rest of the night, a break for some sleep, and on towards the next afternoon before the pair finally started to catch up to him. He moved fast, not daring to stay in one place for long, and his movements didn’t seem to follow much logic. Roving first one direction then another like he hadn’t really made up his mind on where he wanted to strike next. Fortunately for the pair of bounty hunters, they made a good tracking team. With Kunguru’s more familiar knowledge of the area and Hasria’s keen sense of smell they started to gain on their quarry. Looking at the most recent set of tracks, both leopard and hyena agreed that they couldn’t be more than an hour behind the thief. Time to make a real plan.
It took some debate, but eventually the two settled on a plan that both had to admit, might just work. So far attempts to catch the cheeon had resulted in him using his speed and agility to dance out of the guards grasp and bolt into the wilderness. With that in mind, Kunguru and Hasria figured it would be best to set up a sort of ambush. Kunguru was the stealthier of the two. Dark dappled pelt and their years of living in this very jungle meant they would be like a feline shadow…if all went according to plan. Hasria’s job would be to create a distraction. Draw the cheeon’s attention and give Kunguru time to get into position. Simple, not too many moving parts, and something both bounty hunters could get behind. Perfect. Of course, no plan survives first contact with the enemy, but that would be a problem for future Hasria and Kunguru. They would have to adapt to the situation, but that was all part of the job.
