April 2006Here is a compilation of some character's raw sketches that I made for Real Buzz Studios that won me my first USA manga.
The characters were like 5 to 10 minutes sketches drawn out by instinct.
But nowadays since editors have been exposed to very extensive anime/manga styles i wonder if this would work? probably more work is required.
Tip: Why I won? Instead of presenting just pencil sketches just like my competitors did with their presentation I took the extra time to color them so the editor would feel the characters & be impressed.
Always FEEL what your readers/client would like to see.

Buzz ran these sketches past me when they were considering an artist for Hits and Misses. I'd seen two other artists' submissions and kept thinking, "no, no, they don't have the girls right--and the style is too much for a boy's manga than a girl's--!!!" Then he sent me these pictures and I went "POW!!! This is IT!!!"
I was really impressed with how you did Sugar, Bobbi, Vanessa, Cathy and Chantal (one of the characters I introduced to the story). You really captured how I saw them in my mind.
The whole time I was working on the script, I had these drawings sitting on my computer table, keeping them in front of me as I worked, so I could see the girls on paper as well as in my mind. Your artwork was an inspiration for me as I fleshed out Buzz' script. Thanks so much for your contribution to the project.
I sure wish they'd release the durn thing, though.....

When I was reading the description I really tried hard to pretend I have ESP to feel every bit of info on the character descriptions you gave us...and feel your intension for the whole story... as if they were real people...so I even added color to the sketches to give them more character for you guys to understand my rendition ...

I designed her that way because she is a very kind girl...but she loves eating chocolates so I gave her Hershey brown hair ^_^

yeah I dig that style better than what we see today where most characters look the same which btw my competitors did. i FELT like this is what my client needs... so this got me the project .... ^_^ $_$ ^_^
