Description
I read The Lost Hero, the next book in the Percy Jackson series (Or I guess this series will be Jason Graces) And I really do love Greek Mythology. Hades and Persephone's story is one of my favorites.I tried going for a more painted look. I dont know if I succeeded or not. :/ I also went Texture happy : )
The story of Hades and Persephone is an abduction story. Hades, God of the Underworld, fell in love with the Spring Goddess, Persephone. He took her down to the underworld, and her mother, Demeter flew into a frenzy, killing all the crops on Earth. Hades spoiled Persephone in vast riches so she would love him in return. But Persephone missed the sunshine and her mother. But after a while in the underworld, she began to fall for the Dark King and became accustomed to being a Queen. When Hermes came to collect her because Zeus demanded her back to her mother, Persephone swallowed 6 Pomegranate seeds. This allowed her to spend 6 months on Earth with her mother and 6 months in the underworld with her husband.
More or less that's one of the versions of the story : )

What I love most about this piece, is that you didn't draw Hades to look demonic or weird. It always bugged me how there are way too many interpretations of Hades as a jerk or a demon just because he is in charge of the afterlife. He's not even the god of death, so why the hating on him?
Kudos to you!!

Yeah, I agree with you. Too many of that kind of interpretation.

It never made sense because in the Myths, of the three big bosses, Zeus and Poseidon and Hades, He's usually shown to be more sensible and veryΒ neutral in most conflicts, and THAT makes more sense than a creepy, villainous overlord.

There's something about this picture that I just keep coming back to...I love the idea of Persephone actually loving Hades and the way you've captured this is absolutely stunning. Incredible!!

aww thank you! Yeah I really like this piece too! I love the story of Hades and Persephone, but there are so many variations of the story, I prefer the ones where Hades loves her so much he gives her any and everything, and makes a throne in the shape of a flower for her, and she falls for his sweet tendencies ~

Awesome Pic
BUt ARE YOU SERIOUS??? That's the story in Percy JAckson about Hades and Persephone! NO WAY. > Can't believe it. That's completely false and wrong. I don't like the Percy Jackson Series... completely distorts Greek mythology and disgraces it....

No that's not the story in Percy Jackson about Hades and Persephone, That's the version I like the best, because Hades is my favorite Greek God (I have a weird thing for Gods of the Underworld : / ) That's one of the versions of Hades and Persephone story. The other is that she dislikes Hades and he forces the Pomegranate seeds.
I agree the Percy Jackson series does change a lot of about Greek Mythology and I don't always agree, but if you look past it, its fun.

Very nice. I love the mural in the background, but the black lines seem a bit too bold in contrast to the rest. Also Persephone has tiny feet, and Hades' ankle is very long. Great job though, I love it! Also I thought it was Demeter that was goddess of the harvest, and winter comes because of her depression that Persephone is gone?

Yeah I was talking about the curvy black lines in the background. Still looks nice though. Also I didn't know that about Persephone, I thought she was just some chick-god.

Rowyn25 In reply to OdieKun [2011-01-14 16:19:05 +0000 UTC]
Nope, she really didn't have much of a purpose except to help her mother harvest and bring life. But I suppose after she is Hades wife she officially becomes the Goddess of Spring because she is why Spring comes.
Hey did you know you know about the Zodiac Signs? Apparently I am a Taurus now? And your a Scorpio. But their saying this doesn't take place unless your born after 2009, so I guess it doesn't "affect" us. But still. WTF? Tell Ophiuchus to find his own niche somewhere else and not in our calender. We don't have 13 months!

Yeah I just saw that yesterday. First of all, I'm pissed because I'm going from the magestical Greek centaur to the damn SCORPION. And second that's just stupid. The signs are all kinds of screwed up now, Scorpio is only ten days long while the rest are like 3-4 weeks. And you can't just change this kinda thing, and then only change it for some. Lost a planet, gained an ocean, changed the zodiac. What is with this generation?
