heard a random bit on the radio the other day about "Israel at war!" and I was like "yeah... when are they not?" like "how is that news?" but all the same though I thought of my character Alastor who was originally once upon a time years ago Amelda from the Japanese version of Yugioh in a fanfiction where I decided to elaborate on what actually happens when you get thrown by an explosion (it's deleted from the dub) which usually causes hearing damage and "blast-induced traumatic brain injury", but eventually I ended up deviating pretty far off from the YGO character (like I made him transgender so that he changed his name from Amelda, the JP name, to Alastor, based on the dub name, which means "avenger of familial bloodshed" when spelled like that though the dub spelled it differently because that's just a coincidence i found out and wasn't intentional) so I decided to just make him a complete OC on his own, and since war was part of the character's backstory I picked Israel as his birthplace since it's getting blown up all the goddamn time and would be a good setting for someone who was supposed to be damaged by war but was a civilian instead of a soldier (the JP version seemed to imply he was Italian for some strange reason).

here in America where I live, you hear a lot about veterans and soldiers and stuff, but never hear much about the civilian casualties, because for us, it's all happening "over there" so the only thing people can relate to is the soldiers who go fight in another country. nobody here knows what it's like to have your own hometown be the one getting blown up, or be in a war NOT as a soldier in a foreign land. Alastor's character was always a reminder for me of "how much worse things could be" when people in America bitch and complete about stupid things, like, for example, the random woman throwing a fit over not being allowed to set off fireworks (the REAL fireworks, not those buy-at-walmart things) so "they say it's a free country but it's not" and I'm thinking, lady, I got a list of places you can go. :l Fireworks by the way once sent Alastor into a full PTSD breakdown illustrated in Sora's storyline using some of my characters .

but I wasn't sure if I should draw a pic of a fictional character in regards to something actually happening for real but when I logged into dA for the first time in a while, they have this "united in peace for israel" art hashtag thing going on so I was like welp, that settles it then, I have to draw something.

Alastor moved to the USA, where as I said, all that stuff is just on TV and doesn't really happen around here, after his entire family was killed in the Tel Aviv central bus station massacre on January 5, 2003 which happened in real life. the stuff going on over there today that people are talking about is 9 years in the future for the timeline of our harpg project and I'd been thinking for a while about showing what Alastor looks like after when he's older after he's been on hormones and whatever and with his original hair color (the ONLY reason he was dying it red was because that's what the YGO character looked like so with all that dropped, as an OC he doesn't really have much reason to continue to do that but since he started out that way, I imagine it as something he grew out of as he got older). I *ahem* attempted *cough* to put a little extra special effort into this one but I haven't drawn anything in a couple months or something ;;; .... instead of my usual style for my characters I made him a little more Yugioh-shaped as a nod to his original origins as a fanfic character. and uhm.... yeah. it's totally perfect and with absolutely no flaws, kthxbai. XD

Alastor's story in Sora's project is summarized here , he and his horse Nicotine were originally used for Sora's project and I've taken them back this year (or was it last year?) to continue their story on my own account. Nicotine is trained as a service animal for Alastor because of his brain injury and hearing damage and is "the most intelligent and hardest working horse in our project" and is also the fastest but will never reach his potential as a racehorse due to Alastor needing him as a service animal instead. Nicotine is "a real American horse" as Alastor thinks of him, an American Quarter Horse instead of the sort of horses you see around Israel, such as the Arabian, which is considered exotic and cool in the rest of the world but "yeah that's what we have back home" for him and he's not very fond of them since they remind him of his past. even though I tried to put "extra effort" into this pic it would actually count for LESS points in arpg's because it's "just a headshot" but it don't matter cuz Nico is already in the AQHR *AND* EAC groups HAL OF FAME, BISHES. ....mostly because of Sora's art *cough* and he is in fact actually Sora's character based on Sora's Breyer model but since Alastor is my character, Nico moved to my account when Alastor did. (alastor'sweirdlittlefacewtf) ANYWHO I donno whatever, it's good that people are being all supportive for Israel and stuff right now but, uh... I still kinda feel like people need to be aware that, seriously, people out there LIVE with this shit 24/7 and it's not like other places of "oh noes a thing happened" it's just I guess this particular thing was dramatic enough to get everyone's attention. I donno, the point of Alastor's character is kind of about remembering that other places deal with really serious terrible shit every single day that nobody in America has to deal with and people don't think about it. like yeah, America has some issues and all the stuff people are protesting and whatnot does matter and all I'm just saying, people don't think about how much worse things could be and actually are in other places. Alastor moved to America where he felt he would be safe from this stuff and at some point in the intended timeline, he moves to Thespiria , our fictional fantasy world. by the time this happens for them 9 years in the future from where I'm at right now with my pics, for him it would be a reminder of why he left and he'd be glad he's not there anymore, and also a reminder that, while he left and got away and went on with his life and even moved to this magical fantasy land, things in the real world continue and nothing has changed and he wonders if it ever will. in real life of course people can't just move away to a fantasy land, or even just "screw this, I'm going to America" because that's their home and heritage and they shouldn't have to. I donno what I'm trying to say about it, probably nothing, whatever, but I felt like I should say SOMETHING, even if it made no sense. (srslythatweirdfacewtfwhatever)
